McAfee virusscanprofessional + MS AntiSpyware = perfect

I use AVG free, SpyBot, and AdAware.  I have never had an infection.

Also use Zone Alarm free firewall, FireFox for web browser.

Of course it does, the only thing that runs resident processes is AVG and Zone Alarm.  Spybot has a thing called TeaTimer that supposed to give you realtime protection if you choose to run it, but I don't.  Any system should be able to run this programs just fine.  My HP ran great with them when it only had 256MB of ram, and my current system, with 1gig or ram, runs just fine with it.

I scan every so often, not that much.  Good way to stay clean is to stay away from warez, pr0n, and other types of dirty sites, don't open attachments from emails or click on links from them.  Proud to say so far to date I've only gotten one email with a virus attachment, which I deleted.  Also have only gotten one phishing email, just recently, saying my Paypal account was going to be suspended if I didn't update my info.  Funny thing is, I've never used PayPal.  I've got five email addresses, one for spam specifically, one for personall use, one for forum use, the other two for whatever.

Another way to help stay clean is to use a browser which doesn't support ActiveX, FireFox I think is a very good choice, you can install all kinds of extensions for it to customize to how you want it, and change it's appearnce by useing themes.  Another plus is it seems to load pages a lot faster than IE.

Also turn Java off when your browsing, it just opens you up to more malware installs.  I only turn it on when I use something over at BBR that needs it.

How is the pc problem coming along crazed?   If you still need any help I would be more than happy to do my best to assist.  Heck I have a vonage phone (free long distance if your in US or CA) so I could even talk you through it over the phone or whatever if you wanted, and back in the day I did 6 years of phone tech support so its nothing new to me

Speaking bout phones - who of ya have heard of VoIP - Voice over Internet Protocol? When thats fully functional, its gonna change the way we communicate forever - free phonecalls worldwide - even long-distance.

That's what vonage is.  VoIP been around for a while now, and I highly doubt these companies are going let you talk worldwide for free, they always looking for ways to get money from you.

Of course you can use Skype for pc to pc calls for free to other Skype users, with a paid version to make calls to a land line.

There's no problem with XP.  Runs flawlessly for me.  Like anything, you just need to protect your pc.  Microsoft products take the lion's share of attacks because of their overwhelming marketshare.  The Willie Sutton principe applies:  When asked why he robbed banks, he answered simply "because that's where the money's at".  Same for MS products.  That's where the user base is.

Exactly.  XP has always been running great for me, it's just a matter of your security and such.  Have a good firewall and anti-virus.  Tighten up IE internet settings or use an alternative browser.  Don't run as Admin for everyday use and web browsing.  Don't open those attachments on the e-mails that say you've won something.  Don't try to play movies or look at pictures that have an extension of EXE, BAT, COM or anything else that's not a valid movie or picture file extension. Etc, Etc....

Good thing about the next version of Windows is it won't hand out Admin privledges by default anymore.

I hated XP when I started using it - now I cant go back to anything else. Therefore, only XP-n00bs are anti-XP
