anyone know how to disable the system fan in Windows Vista? (Socket LGA775) i've installed a new case fan that's powered off the PSU, not the MB.

i want to disable it so i don't get that error everytime i boot up: System Has Failed, blah blah blah... (you can just hit F2 to continue on to windows, but it's annoying)

i peeked in the bios, but didn't see anything, just rpm speed.

thanks, rob

vista monitors your pcu fan? If it's a setting in vista I have no idea.

In bios you should be able to disable monitoring of it. I have a fan that runs off the psu as well. Had to disable it in bios so I didn't get errors during post.

My suggestion is to leave the system fan alone and just install an additional 1/3rd Horse Power fan that you can get for about $15 at a local HVAC supply store and plug it into a nearby outlet.

My suggestion is to leave the system fan alone and just install an additional 1/3rd Horse Power fan that you can get for about $15 at a local HVAC supply store and plug it into a nearby outlet.  :headbang:

found a solution to my boot up woes afterall... since i have an empty drive bay in my HP (m8020n), decided to use the enclosure for the 92mm fan i removed from the back. now besides having my system fan reconnected and no more "system failure" msg at boot up, my main HrdDrv gets a little extra cooling.
draws in fresh air from the perforated side cover. BTW... don't laugh at that little PSU!  :D it's doing it's job so far, even with running a 8600GTS and all the fans, and system. soon be moving up in that area, just haven't decided on a particular one yet. whatever it'll be, will have the future in mind, SLI, etc. and will most likely be used in an all new case after a short run in this one.

pics...

Note exhaust fan under the VC, those things actually work! was afraid i'd be wasting $$, but extracts quite a bit of warm air.
