What confuses me is that the server was showing up greyed out in both all seeing eye and Gamespy arcade. Can a ban do that? And  the game's console would also say "awaiting connection" infinitely, instead of saying "Connection refused" or something like that. Not saying that you are wrong, I'm just saying I'm a little confused:p But hey, I can connect to the server now, so I guess you're right.

...How do I fix this bad path skin problem to avoid this whole mess up again? I guess i turn off auto-dl'n skins and models right?

Yes, it was a 'blackhole' style ban.  The server just ignores packets from that IP, which makes it look to Gamespy, etc., like the server doesn't even exist.

Re: the bad path skin problem... Yeah, I guess turning off auto-download would work for now.  I'd like to know who/what is really causing the problem... It's not very good that someone can apparently ban OTHER people by setting their skin to a bogus value.

Real sorry, but the problem has happened again. Somehow dl'n models was turned back on, and I was banned again. Reallllllllllllllllllllllllll sorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry for the problem hehe, but do you think you can unban me again? And do you know a way I can make sure autodln is permanently turned off, to avoid this problem hehe:p

Ban removed.  Other than turning off downloads in your autoexec.cfg, I have no idea what else would be "more permanent."

what is wrong with downloading someone elses skin?  why does the server block people who have certains skins?

it doesn't block "certain" skins, just those with bogus file paths.

I'd assume that it blocks these so that people can't set their skin value to something custom that doesn't exist, in an attempt to screw with everyone else's client. (an exploit)

when it tries to render that player model and can't find the skin it might throw some sort of error.
every person who had custom skin auto-downloading set would be affected.


this would be why my config is set up so I only download maps/env/textures/mod files.
I don't want to see cows and homers and all manner of other stupid looking player models, or be vulnerable to exploits like this.
