Dunno how many people know this, so I thought id post it to help those who don't
A perhaps more useful tip..
hearing footsteps is not as useful as you might think.
When one reaches the point where they win some games and have moves, jumps, and aim down; I think, listening might be the most valuable skill to practice. In my experience, you can get "played" by a better player if they know where you are.
Yes sound is useful however sound is to aim and movement as car stereos are to monster trucks and race cars.

They know by of the different pickup sounds, the order of the sounds, the relation to jumps, travel time, where you'd likely go given your current items and health, etc.. Certainly this is more important in tourney (1v1) than Deathmatch.DefThat's O.k. I'm possibly the only one here without a quad counter because honestly if you're going to be THAT competative, what's the point in playing? It's just silly to me like those all black skins, which is specifically why I use psycho or claymore. Bright red so they can see me coming. But anyway the stero sound in quake 2 is overrated. I know quite a bit of great players that also do not use sound and could care less as well.
