So far I have renamed the mysterious msnmsg.exe to msnmsg.exe.bak and rebooted. No more pop ups in the last little bit and I have been able to delete that *.bak file from my system32 folder with no hitches, yet. Mcaffee even recognized I use firefox now and has installed it's site advisor plugin. Before it never recognized it...probably b/c the bitch file I had was blinding it.
Hopefully now I'm gonna be protected.
So uh, who's got linux I can get?

Oh, okay that's good. I see you've deleted that thing because
C:\windows\system32\
msnmsg.exe
of course is spyware.
nvm

What do people think the very best spyware removal software is out there? Free or not free...

the Windows XP pro installation CD FTW!
That'll settle any virus's hash.
Just wipe the partitions and reinstall.

lol well yeah. some guy here is completely infested. I did the best I could with free software and without wasting my time by manually deleting keys and such. told him 2 weeks ago the best bet is for us to reinstall the OS. given updates / installation and such it will take over 4 hours. doesn't want to give up his computer for 4 hours though. figure there may be something out there that's better then what I was using.

I really do like the McAfee products. They don't dig themselves in as hard as Norton does (afaik).
They offer all types of options and it makes it easy for a basic user like myself to navigate and setup my protection. (heh, yeah I know I was recently infected but that's because I neglected to tie in McAfee to Firefox and Torrents so that it scans any files I am downloading before I can access them.) There is a great spam filter as part of it and I really like it's interface.
A lot of the free Virus software offer purchasable upgrades, right? So, in my opinion, I'd rather buy a full program one off than run a "demo" of it.

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
