Early this year I removed the "delete" button from forums accounts.  I did this because there had been a slow but steady number of people who would delete their account, then a week or two later email me asking if their account could be undeleted.  (The answer to which, is no.)

I got tired of that, so I removed the delete button.  (If people really want to delete their accounts they can ask, and I'll do it... but deleting the account doesn't remove the posts anyway, so... doesn't accomplish a whole lot except make further posts impossible.)

Anyway..................

As far as I know, Catalyst got upset over an incident in IRC in April, and my presumption is that she tried to delete her forums account here.  Finding the delete button missing, I suppose she changed her name to a "." instead.

(From my point of view, the IRC incident was largely a misunderstanding.  I tried to email her about it, but got no answer.)

It might be an idea to make it so that you can choose to put your account on "inactive" (temporarily or permanent for whatever reason) just so you can't post anymore and your account name changes to "Name [inactive]"
That way a user at least has the option to show others that he/she won't be posting, instead of just walking away from the forum and not bothering to ask you to delete their inactive account.    Ehh just a thought.

I like the idea.  I didn't have to do any coding to remove the 'delete' button, though.  I just unchecked a box that said, "can delete own account".

So although I like the [inactive] idea, there's no option in the forums to enable that behavior.

I see, hmm I don't know what options are available but perhaps something else could be done with the profile? Say if someone uses the 'inactive' button it changes their rights so they become 'guests', except they can I see and download attachments.
