i have had it happen 3-4 times
only when hardware failed tho

my video cards fan burnt itself out 2 times and was overheating :p

I never had any problems with my Win2000....and its the exact same system that my new XP is installed on but now instead of a nice stable OS....I have a nice fast system that crashes unexpectedly .... all the time. So I can tell you it's not because I don't know what I'm doing. It has to do with some weird driver conflict somewhere that is being very tricky to trace.

this is what i dont like, people going around telling otehrs that xp crashes for no reason and its an all around bad OS just becuase they are having problems. and people buy it
even i did, i hated it becuase everyone else said it was bad LOL :p but you admited that its a driver issue on your computer

I use Linux (Debian SID) most of the time, also when playing games. My favourite quake2 clients are icculus quake2 and currently nocheat (self compiled sources of version 2.34). While the former has very nice colours, the latter allows for larger console fonts (thanks to "gl_scale") even at high resolutions.

Yes, but why would I all of a sudden have mobo driver issues with NTFS XP when I had no mobo driver issues at all on the same set up with NTFS Windows2000? I mean, isn't it Windows 2000 the basis of Windows XP? And even after updateing all my drivers to the XP versions on a clean install, and still have problems? I actually really like the speed and all the cool build-in's that come with XP, so I really want to get this thing working correctly.
But from the looks of what everyone has said. It looks like I need to get this Windows XP system running properly, and then experiment with the Linux system to see if I like it better.

I voted 4 windows. xp rocks. fuck winme or win98, those os are just bulllshit. and linux, i dont know wtf is linex, i still wouldnt use that, and fuck makintosh, that shit sux cocks big time. im using xp professional, and the only problem i have is the spyware and viruses. but other than that, its cool.

Yes ditch IE, you'll be better off with an alternative, such as FireFox. FireFox is customizable to fit your needs.
