as far as i know everythings the same except on the dm maps there is quad and shields. regualr dmflags.
the vanilla maps no quad no powerup no shields. They way it is now you can run down 30frags in 2mins on some of these maps...throw back in the quad and what not prob like 0-1min maps for some players.

I like the settings the way they are personally. I know there is a random Gravity generator right now. it adds a twist to the same old same old.  the fraglimit has been rasied on some popular maps that ppl just finish too quick and that people like. and lowered on some maps that i guess some people dont like.

Nice try, but wrong.
No armor makes these short 1 - 2 minute games possible, not like the old days when armor could be used to protect oneself against rail/rocket campers(and quad whores).
At least with the quad whores games averaged out around 5 minutes.

What can I say, Xquake is really nothing more than an instagib rail server these days - no doubt about it. Hey I'd love the rail server too if I had an 18 ping.

The original settings I recall were:

  - single-player maps only
  - NO WEAPONS STAY
  - all powerups and all armor on
  - fraglimit 40
  - timelimit 30

With the original settings we get:

  - constant requests to turn weap-stay on
  - people leaving the server in droves when maps like train or hangar2 come on and they realize they have to get 40 frags before the torture will end!
  - repeated requests for more frags on maps like ware2, fact2, waste2, etc.
  - repeated requests for adding dm maps to the rotation
  - some players monopolizing powershield and quad... and a corresponding stream of complaints about "quad whore" and "pussyshield"

I don't think we've ever once had a request to have "more frags" on train.  It's currently set to 10.

The current settings (gravity lottery excluded) were arrived at by attempting to tune the areas of gameplay that generated the most complaints.  

As always, probably impossible to please everyone.  We still get people who ask for q2dm1 no matter what level is playing.  :wink:

That's crazy talk.    Heheh, well for me personally anyway it would be.  I'd rather play applejacks with no armor and no powerups.  Otherwise apple WILL have the armor.  Just watch him on levels that currently have powerups and armor enabled.  The level is over even faster, with more space between applejacks and the next-highest-score.

There are so many things wrong with that I don't know where to begin.

 - opinion masquerading as fact
 - no one admin is singlehandedly enforcing ANY policy that I'm aware of
 - opinion masquerading as fact
 - i don't complain about quad & powerups when they're on, i just don't use them (we could have a 3rd party check the server logs, you won't find me complaining.)
 - opinion masquerading as fact
 - any admin can change any settings at any time
 - a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds (so the saying goes)
 - console is responsive to player requests for settings changes
 - we don't GET requests for powerups often, that I'm aware of (someone can grep the server logs to determine if that's true.  We do sometimes get people asking IF quad is enabled... I don't think we get requests to turn it on very often at all.)
 - currently all DM maps and all custom maps have powerups and armor ENABLED
 - I have personally asked other admins whether trying a lottery system for powerups and armor sounded good, so that we'd get to experience levels both ways, might satisfy more players than the current system (and we know damn well we can't please everyone.)  The other admin(s) I mentioned this idea to, said no, just leave them off.  So singling me out seems incorrect.  It's tough to find settings everyone likes.  The approach taken is to tune settings to find which generate the fewest complaints.
 - You still have an admin account.  Feel free to share the workload.

on one of the koth maps the one with the muiltlevel things
there is powershield and quad.. when it was set at 30 frags i could get the ps and quad depending where i spawned and basically beef up in 10seconds and finish 30frags in 1min with quad machine gun and blowing a few bfgs down the hole hehehe

i dunno. I liked it the way it was before.. i like it now. i adjusted
i just like to have a gun in my hand to shoot back instead of using blaster!!

I think the name "Never - Quadz" speaks for itself. No you're not solely responsible, but it shouldn't be any surprise why you're against it, lets just be honest.

I didn't have a problem with turning the powers shields/quad off, it was a noble experiment, but I don't recall anyone proposing a vote or discussion of it before it happened. It just happened and stuck.

Personally I prefer DM, with all the goodies turned on, I also prefer the single player maps as opposed to DM 1 - 8 (this is why I played xquake for years), but it has occured to me that during the single player maps xquake is nothing more than instagib/rail server, its way to easy to get fragged with no armor.

As far as custom maps go I will say this, I'm not in favor of them, unless a seperate server is set up to handle the custom map rotation.
One server runs official Id maps and the other server could run custom maps (or another mod?).

Alot of people like xquake because this is one of the ONLY servers that they can play ALL of the official Id Q2 SINGLE PLAYER maps in sequence. Not to mention it's plain old DM, no oddball mod.

No other DM server in North America that i'm aware of has the single player maps running in sequence, every other server has basically a custom map rotation or DM's 1 -8, and there is definitely an audience for the single player maps.

Custom maps are fun for a change of pace, but it always feels good to return to the single player ones. Plus custom maps are a hassle to download. Not to mention no two people will ever agree on what custom map should be played.

From my experience it just becomes a huge clusterf@&k trying to appease everyone with new maps. Everyone wants to try this map or that map, and no one is ever happy. Not to mention once you finally start to learn one map it always gets changed or taken out of the rotation, because someone doesn't like it blah blah blah

Besides, there are already enough maps in rotation on xquake as is, it almost takes half the work day just to get through one cycle. Like I suggested if another server could come into be, one could run official Id maps and the other could run custom maps (or another mod?).

This is an open forum for all players to chide in with their thoughts, suggestions ect... and so I'm making a few in response to the prospects of maybe adding another server in the future. I feel there are others who may share my point of view.

Never-quadz(tm) is an indication of my personal preference not to USE quad damage.  It's not intended to be a political stance geared toward influencing others.

I'm not opposed to running a second vanilla server.  I'm not opposed to much of anything.  And it's not my decision anyway.  (Though I will need to find some solutions to adminning multiple servers from a software standpoint.)

We get a lot more requests for custom maps on the server, than we do for powerups, that's for sure!

So, it's a challenge...

I haven't been in favor of these changes since day ONE and I HAVE brought it up on the server in the past, only to be told by "console" that this is the way "WE" like things. I've since let it rest.

Now that this forum is up, I'm using the opportunity to use it as a platform of discussion and debate for ALL to take part in.

I personally like the Single player maps and like the rotation.  I don't mind some custom maps, but I do not like the lagging KOTH maps.

I'd like 5 or six cutsoms that are built in the same style as the original game.  Similar to Hard Angels.  Since I'm on 56k I'd like them to be fairly permanent, but that's my problem

IMO I'm not a big fan of power armor at all, and personally would like to keep it out of the hands of the good and bad players

oneshot on the other hand..heheh he lives pretty close to it. i still get better ping than him..

where is 1shot these days anyway... u should find your distance from a RT or CO dukie and get dsl if your signal is optimal. or just get cable.
