In following DeathStalkers trend of mod explanations and assistance (which is a great idea) - here's a little explanation upon an intensely fast paced Q2 CTF mod

Lidz, this is by far the best explanation of a MOD i've seen yet. Also, thank you for posting it at MK aswell.
Although could you explain a little more about the hook? What kind of bind do you need, and is there aliases to using it effectivaly. If so, what type of movements or tricks can be done with the hook and how ??

Using hook is simple - just bind key +hook - typically players use mouse2.

As far as movement, it is a game of hooking madness.  I suggest joining a server and testing the speed of the hook.  For those that have played the lith style hook, the movement is similar, but this is much faster.  The hook is not only a tool of movement in this game, but a offensive/defensive tool - where one needs to be tricky in movement.

If you would like to play a few games, please let me know and I can set something up - with some of the most intensive players.  Railwolf and Catalysit have been playing with us lately and they seem to enjoy it as well.

Biggest suggestion is just to be patient.  With the speed and railing styles of these players, one can give up pretty quickly.

I jokingly describe these guys as being on crack. It's hook rail on roids. :bouss01:

The hook is not only a tool of movement in this game, but a offensive/defensive tool - where one needs to be tricky in movement.


There is no air accel, which makes the hook hop darn near impossible to steer; but these folks have somehow devised a way to move faster than even what a hook hop can propel you. I always look like I'm going in reverse next to these blokes, so my most effective position is guarding the base. I hope I am not out of place by adding that my perspective of the game changed when I started to instead of looking at it as "capture the flag," but more so a form of "flag keep away." If I spawn near the opposing team's base, and deep down know I am not swift enough to carry their flag, I still grab it if I am the only one there, because heaven forbid the enemy returns to find their flag at base prime for a capping. Even if I am unsuccessful at my flag carry attempts, it may allow one of my more responsible teammates to get into better position to carry the flag next time around. Once in a while, I even get lucky and get back to home base and get a cap. :beer: Also, being in the right place at the right time helps. If your teammate looses the flag, you have a brief opportunity to grab it off the ground and move on if you get to it before the enemy does to return it to their base.

Lidz, please feel free to correct me on any of these added notes. These are just a few of my observations I have learned thus far. I am by no means an expert on the subject.  :peace:

Perfect comments Catalyst - you are right, a huge part of the game is doing the right thing at the right time.  This is a team game, so those that just run around without a purpose and just rail - will not do well.  Playing the proper position at the right time is key, as you stated, even if you suck with the hook - grabbing the flag to prevent a capture is very important.  Just like playing defense when your offensive player is in trouble is just as important. 

Just use common sense and team play - anyone with a fraction of a brain should do well  ;)
