Okay, n00b member here but I have been a Quake fan for years. I have been looking to take a break from other FPS's when I stumbled upon this site so I am asking for some "direction"...

First: What do I need to get started ? Original Q2 CD or where can I buy one since I prolly can't find my original
Second: Once I get the game loaded up, where do I go from there ? Do I need a "client" or any special software or maps ?
Third: Besides here, any forums or waiting rooms to hang out before/after games ?

Sorry for the n00b questions but I'd like to get back into Q2 but it has been a few yrs since I have even loaded the game up. Thx in Adavnce...

I have a friend who bought his copy for .99 off of ebay. Looks there first.

You are gonna need 3.20 and I don't know where to get it, but somebody here will chime in on all that stuff

(either the reckoning or ground zero expansion pack has it )

dont buy q2 just download the demo and then the last point release.. ALL U NEED!! which earns q2 2 emo clouds

you can use the 3.20 patch which can be downloaded here:
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake2/q2-3.20-x86-full-ctf.exe

but alot of people have been switching over to r1q2 and anticheat, it is very nice and streamlined thanks to rich and can be s/l here:

Jay Dolan has also been working on a q2 client called quetoo and that can be d/l here:

Any of the above clients will work with q2 servers, just take your pick!

Did anyone mention a server browser?

Yahoo's all seeing eye is a free program.
There are a bunch of others you can try as well.

Mac OS X 10.3.9

I heard 10.4 is the shit but have yet to upgrade...

I am really pleased with the performance - I am currently running r1GL, but lately have been switching back to the fruits of dojo client - not sure which is better for me...

not sure about this because I dunno if its illegal or not but I would be willing to host a zipped version of the q2 iso off one of my sites (filesource or somewhere else), I dont really think anyone would get too mad about it because its a 10year old game but I know virtually nothing about software licensing

That's most definitely illegal, and posting it here potentially puts ts.net in jeopardy. id has always been very lax when it comes to enforcing copyright and trademark on mod developers, mappers, engine hackers, etc. But blatantly pirating an entire game? Yea they might have a problem with that

Just to put it into perspective, Amazon.com has Q2 starting from $0.95 used, and $6.97 new. If you don't feel that Q2 is worth a few bucks, get lost.
