Quest's single-player map jumps
« on: February 06, 2007, 02:05:44 PM »
I wanted to make these demos more for the newer people starting to play quake 2 at Tastyspleen.  Basically, they are not really trick jumps, but jumps that can be really helpful during a FFA match.  None of them are very difficult, they just take a little practice.  I'm not a great jumper, so if I can get them done, anyone can.

What I think I will do is post a total of 4 demos a day(the max you can in one post), until I get thru all of the single-player maps.  Who knows, perhaps some of you "seasoned pros" will even see a thing or two you like.

Today I am posting demos from [base1 // base3 // train // bunk1]

Haha,

Damn I feel like more of a retard than usual...  :evilalien: :dohdohdoh:

I didn't realize you could just strafe off the top of that little lightpost in train.  I tried for a long time to double-jump off the lightpost and make it onto the platform.  Finally succeeded one day and thought I'd done something special.  :-[

Actually, its not really a strafe either. It is a circle jump from a standing position.  Its kind of a pain in the arse jump to be honest.  You have a small window of space for the jump, otherwise you will hit the wall to the right.

Thanks for checking it out pants ;)

Not sure if it's appropriate for me to post these here, as it's your thread...

But I have a couple I wanted to share...

The ware2 jump isn't necessarily useful, but it's fun because it puts you in a location people aren't used to.  You can almost sense the mild "wtf" from the players on the rail arena floor as they turn their attention to the annoying person on top of the boxes. :)

The dm4 one isn't a jump at all, but just taking a full-speed turn on a narrow ledge in order to double back and surprise a would-be pursuer.  It's fun when it works out, 'cause the person who thought they were chasing you has no expectation that you'll suddenly wind up behind them (or above them depending on how closely they tried to follow.)

Fun, fun.

I don't mind at all pants. If ya have anything else to add feel free :D

Your jumping is much better than mine i see :) I have a hard time making that jump on ware2.  Unfortunately, because of my key setup I cant do strafe jumping the same way most people do, and it hurts my performance.  Instead I have to rely a lot more on my circle jumps to gain speed an distance jumping. Maybe someday I'll make the change to using "a and d" or "leftarrow and rightarrow" as side stepping.

DM server is fucked. 2 point blank rockets from spawn and lava damage and player survived? WTF?" Also someone has fucked with the spawn points, every single time no matter how big the map you spawn right in front of the person who killed you last
