Anybody had Q2 working on Vista yet?

I think I'm about decided on a new laptop I want to purchase from the local Best Buy...only problem is that it comes with Vista.  If I buy a laptop with Vista on it though, I'm going to use the Vista license most definitely.  When I was running the RTM of Vista, I never got Quake 2 running at all, in software or GL mode.  Has ATI developed the GL layer for Direct X yet?  Anybody know of workarounds to make it run on Vista?  I'd really like to hear some success stories before I go out and drop $1400 on a laptop. <3

I just got vista today, as far as q2 running, it works fine for me (or at least as good as it did on xp). Im using r1gl. Unfortunately though, the dreaded mouse acceleration problem is an issue for me. I turned off pointer precision in the control panel but that didn't help.

kudos to fR33STyleR for answering my question    I've beta tested Vista already, even had the RTM installed for 2 weeks or so, but could never get Q2 to run on it.  I'm already decided on which laptop I want...probably going to pick it up tomorrow too.  I just wanted to know if anybody was able to get it to run in the two month period from when I stopped using Vista and switched back to XP....and apparently so.  I'll do a little more research just to make sure though.

Runs fine, no problems, except for the mouse problem which sould be a simple hack once I get the time to figure it out. One warning... if you like sound quality, do not install Vista yet. MS have completely redesigned the sound stack and there are no sound cards I have found which sound good, everything sounds like a SB16. My audigy 2 has beta drivers which sound maybe a little better than an N64.

There is no volume normalization either, if I play music and then launch q2 without turning the volume down, I think I may blow up my house. What a bummer. I will experiment a little more and then may switch back to XP and come back to Vista later. I bought it while I had the cash, and might not in future.

How many of you guys plan to install Vista any time soon? Would it be worth starting a vista thread.

vista will not touch my computer or any computer in my house, you can be sure of that
from what iv seen so far, its nothing but problems. why should i spend $600x5 CDN (for all of my computers)
when XP works %1000 on every front

Another warning... I have reverted back to XP (well, dual boot xp and vista) because I could not fix the mouse accel problem. I tried every tweak I am aware of, all failed. It rendered Q2 unplayable.

Oh man, i just bought myself a new laptop, it has VISTA on it. I can't play Quake2 anymore  . WTF, is there any patch or something ? Or do i have to find a new XP ??? bull***T, i don't even have driver CD's with my laptop, everything is packed in this operating system, it's awfull. Any suggestions ?

That's what everybody said about Windows XP.  Microsoft motto:  If it's not broke, fix it or update it until it is.  What's wrong with running windows 2000 which does exactly the same thing but doesn't have the draconian activation and bloat?  Everytime MS comes out with the latest and greatest piece of crap everybody has this urge to buy it because it's newer, just like it's predecessor 5 years ago.  Newer != better.

You can buy laptops without an OS on them and customise the hardware, however you need to look farther than best-buy or walmart.

If you were dumb and already bought Vista, you're not stuck with it.  You can return it to the store citing that you didn't agree to the user agreement that nobody reads.
