Round 3 predictions

[daelmun]

Ok, now the 3rd round matches are set, so it's time to do some predicting again. Some of the games have been played already, but I'll just pretend they weren't. Still haven't seen all players in action, but at least know most of them better than I did to begin with.

Map for this round: aerowalk / grom_dm3 / ztn2dm3


corky - daelmun
Corky has tdm experience and it's easy to see from his gameplay he certainly knows what he is doing. Good aim and a cool head. Lacks some speed and the top notch mapknowledge on aero and grom. Daelmun (me!) is in a fairly good shape these days, and no stranger to 1v1. Overall fairly good mapknowledge, allthough lacking some on grom_dm3. Rely on maplockdown over aim, which is hard when not being in control. Should be a good fight, if Corky can get the railgun do the talking and get me on the run he can easily win grom, on aerowalk I have the advantage cause I know the map pretty well and have a working tactic there. But I think I will come out the winner, due to more activity in 1v1.

daized - graphite
The highlight of this round, and in the tourney this far. Daized is a well schooled tdm player, with great overall aim and smooth movement. He is certainly not a one map wonder, allthough I really don't know how well he knows the grom_dm3 map. Smart player that is hard to play, allthough he is not as active these days. Graphite is another aim oriented player, with awesome aim and good speed. He has the ability to completely lock down the map, but he lacks the mapknowledge on quite a few of these maps. I'd say if daized gets his game going and wins on aero I think he might take this one. However if graphite gets the taste of blood and wins the first map it can easily go the other way. Grom_dm3 is the dark horse here, doubt neither of the players are too schooled on that map. Ztn3 as a decider will be close too. It all depends who has their day I think. I'd say daized wins this, but not sure at all.

abus1ve - IOU
Abus1ve suprised us all with his win against Element, and proved to be able to keep his head cool when needed. He has a good understanding of the game of 1v1, nice overall aim and a good attitude as well. Allthough he needs to sharpen his aerowalk skills some, and as always I have no idea how he will fare on grom_dm3. IOU played convincingly in his games vs gurtbfrobe, relying heavily on chain. Aero is more about pure aim than most of the maps, certainly when neither of the players know to completely lock it down. I'd say abus1ve will manage to utilize his aim on this map, winning it. On grom_dm3 it's pretty much who gets control first. First frag on this map matters quite a bit, and also being able to jump to RA consistantly. Think it's gonna be a tough game, but in the end I think abus1ve will win this as well.

rogal - sean
Rogal has come a long way, and suprised to see him reach the 3rd round. He is a hpb as he comes from Poland so his ping will always be to his disadvantage. He lacks experience in 1v1 and the mapknowledge on these maps however, and will be having a tough time against sean here. Sean is an active dueller that always strive to improve, and rely much on knowing the map better than his opponent, and itemtiming. He has a fairly good aim, but will most likely just out armor and out health his opponent in order to win these games. Allthough he lacks the speed and sexy movement needed to jump to RA on either of the maps, he should know them better than his opponent. I predict a fairly convincing 2-0 victory for sean here.

defiant - ee emm ecks
Defiant is one of the dark horses in the tournament so far, knocking out two not so unexperienced duellers as deathtoll and cartman. He has a steady and secure gameplay, moves well and has a nice aim and awereness. He should not be taken lightly by anyone. He lacks the mapknowledge on aerowalk and probably on grom_dm3 though, but believe he is learning from previous games there. Eeemmecks I haven't seen playing, but judging from his scores against HiPingLee he would be having a hard time winning this one. I think defiant will win this 2-0, by pure aim and general better 1v1 skills.

slacker - pawnso
Slacker played convincingly against banes on q2dm1, but was put more to the test on ztn3. He has a love for hitscan weapon, and also a confident and steady movement. He certainly is no stranger to tdm/1v1ing, so anyone playing him should have a hard time. Allthough the maps in this round are quite different from the ones in the previous round (dm1/ztn3), they all favour an aimer over a tactical player. Pawnso I don't know that much about, he has won his previous rounds 2-0 but the opponent haven't been too hard. Prove me wrong, but I think slacker will win this one 2-0 with his experience and aim, and just the fact that he is quite a skilled player. With different maps pawnso would stood a better chance.

chacal - gator
Another exciting match. Chacal has come this far by beating laurelin in the previous round, and is said to have a good aim and is a good FFA player. If he can put his aim to work, and get the map under control I would figure it will be hard to take it back from him. However I don't know how well he knows these maps. Gator is an oldschool style player, slow sort of player with no fancy moves and just wins games with his mind. But he has a good aim as well, and is also performing well in FFA. This is going to be a good game, think gator might get aero but grom_dm3 could easily go to chacal. However with ztn3 as the last and deciding map I think gator actually will be able to win this one. Will be a fun game anyway, and chacal can easily win. Guess it comes down to who has the cooler head and who is in the best shape that day.

ZGSE - naymlis
ZGSE is a very competitive player that always will do what he can to win. He got a steady and sometimes very nice aim, and is overall well schooled in duelling. However aerowalk is not his strongest map, but he has played FFA enough on grom_dm3 to know it fairly well. But we all know FFA and 1v1 is two different worlds. Naymlis needs no further presentation, he is the big favourite to win this tourney with his insane maplockdown skills and very strong aim. Should prove no match for naymlis I'm afraid, as aero is one of his stronger maps in this tourney, and grom_dm3 happens to be his favourite. I predict some loopsided scores indeed.

Just for kicks I'll predict the quarter finals too

Quarter Finals (ztn2dm2/q2dm1/aerowalk)
daelmun-daized: if I have a lucky day I can win, it's hard to predict oneself, but I know I got a slight chance regardless who I play. Played some very good players on each of these maps, so I know what I have to do. Screw it, daized wins.
abusive-sean: going to be a good game indeed. ztn2 will go to sean, q2dm1 to abus1ve and aerowalk to sean.
defiant-slacker: another exciting game, but think slacker got this one. Played impressively against banes on q2dm1 and only need to get the upper hand on either of the other two.
gator-naymlis: naymlis wins this.

Thanks guys, some exciting matches in the weeks to come. Just hope people have the balls to schedule them early so the admins don't need to work overtime and giving out byes in this round. There is no reason not to schedule, pick a time and a date and play it already!

Anyway, hard round to predict as the maps are unkown to most. At least compared to previous round with q2dm1, ztn2dm3 and q2dm3. Should be some crazy games on grom_dm3, and really looking forward to some telefrags on players with 200/200 A word of advice step into the teleport with care, it's worth it.
