I did see it, I was there participating during all 3 maps. YOU obviously do not know what you're talking about. The first time all vetos were successful, and the admin (defiant) had his choice of 2 maps being that his was the last veto. The 2nd round, he said 'Last maps available, dm8 and ztn3' I hadn't veto'd yet, and he all of the sudden changed the map to dm8 when simultaneously I vetoed this map. I'm not complaining, I just think that Defiant has no room to complain when map choice was in his favor and he cancelled my veto. Maybe YOU should've been there, quest?

Another proposed idea is for defiant to NOT be the last person to veto, being that it was his final choice between 2 maps the first 2 final rounds.

Was the same when we, I mean _he_ decided for q2dm1. I hadn't even vetoed anything yet.

Don't blame Defiant! for any of the maps, blame me.  It was frustrating as hell trying to track vetos when people were yelling out multiple vetos.  It was damn near impossible to write down and track.  i made the map changes, and after each one asked people to veto again to try and get an understandable answer.  It is just something that will need to be worked out before the next one.  But blame me, Defiant! had nothing to do with it.

And just so you understand the pressure that was pressing against us, the rounds were scheduled every 30 minutes with fifteen minute rounds.  Players were showing up too late, vetoing was taking way too long, and in the end, when i saw the fifteen minute mark left for the match, i chose the best map i could with the info i had.  There was no favoritism, and nobody besides me was responsible for the maps.  It is something that won't happen again.

I will responsibly take the blame, as I did plan this tourney in a very poor way. Many issues that I was aware of, haven't been taken care of (ppl joining in the server after a game is started, poor map vetoing system..etc). The task was too big for my ken and the lack of smoothness during the event is a witness of the lack of preparation.

I'd like to thank the three refs, Gator, Defiant! and DS for taking the crap coming with this.

The suggestions proposed are for sure non-optional for the next tourney.

Actually I can verify that the view from the admin console was as chaotic as Quest described.  I was considering muting everyone and unmute folks one-at-a-time for their vetos.

The logs show that while haunted strained to permeate the THC fog of his own making, Defiant answered Gator's query about "8 or ztn3dm3" and the die was cast.

Well Gator having to do most of the refing and Defient having to stop playing to ref was probably my fault. It was my first time helping ref and I went in on DM8 of the first Heat to help ref and found myself overwhelmed with all the chaos and basically just froze.

that log shows hindsight vetoing ztn2dm3, i saw 8 as the only one left.  There were other vetoes previous to that that the logs doesnt show (by my memory, and who knows how accurate that is).  But its all in the past.

im moving forward to the next one.

It was just to point out that it got pretty hectic, and i think everyone did the best that they possibly could under the circumstances.

It did get pretty hectic, yes. There were some mistakes, yes. But I don't think we have to keep going about who's fault anything was. The games are over. All that we can do now is better prepare for next time.

I like the suggestion of a randomly seeded maplist that has maps vetoed until everybody is happy or until one is left. Locking down the servers to keep non-entrants from joining would help, but perhaps with temporary unlocking for people who ask a ref if there is a slot open.

Personally, the biggest problem from last night was simply people not showing up. Maybe things could have been different if the pms were sent out earlier, but then again, people should just be there when they say they are going to be there, and not just sign up for shits and giggles.

Overall, great event (even though they were the worst games I played in my life).

Oh, one more thing: I vote that the next ffa tourney takes place on the sconfig server, as it has configurable start weapons, spawn protection, etc. The players may or may not want faster rockets and whatnot, but the server can be configured to keep spamfests from happening... too much.

rofl i think after adren won the dm7 spamfest and had what 66eff the map thing is a non issue. maybe a private server next time and a random map selection would be a thought. Also with people not showing for their matches it went rather well all things considered.
