From BBC News: - Final arrangements are being made for the execution of Saddam Hussein, which now appears imminent.
Iraq's Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, has said he wants the execution to take place before the end of the year. (...) Several reports quoted senior Iraqi officials as saying the execution would take place at 0600 local time (0300 GMT) on Saturday.

The execution:
Saddam Hussein will be hooded with hands tied behind his back.
Government and religious officials, a lawyer and a doctor will act as witnesses.
The execution will be filmed to provide proof of his death.

"No-one can oppose the decision to execute the criminal Saddam" Nouri Maliki, Iraqi Prime Minister.

On the one hand I feel the dog should be executed but on the other hand I'd rather see him rot away in some filthy dungeon.
Not that I feel sorry for him but maybe it's got something to do with the fact that I've always had mixed feelings about the death penalty, or because of the interval between his capture and the execution (~3 years) or maybe even because he's become a living caricature over the years... I don't know. But in spite of mixed feelings there are always exceptions and I think this is the right thing to do.

I as well have mixed feelings.

But I am keeping in mind he was tried by his people and his 'type' of government. I hope the US had nothing to do with his trial behind the scenes - it would undermind the whole purpose to the Iraq war (ignoring the weapons of mass destruction excuse). I haven't read anough on his trial to give a truely educated response - but if justice to the murder people came - then it was justified.

Again, the key here is, he was trial by a jury of his Iraqi peers.

Sure Saddam was an ass, but he didnt really have a choice. You cant rule a culture of people in the middle east without brutality. Its all they know, and will ever know unless there is western intervention ala Japan post ww2. What was he supposed to do, wait around for the citizens to stage a coup and kill him? Those people there still live with 12th century morals and ideals, they are really in the dark ages (technologically, and ethically)

And despite all of the horrible things that he did, you didn't see Iran trying to get nuclear while he was around did you? Yes, he was a muderer, yes he probably deserved to die, but from a purely western standpoint I gotta say the guy wasn't all bad, he had his place in the middle east.

www.filecabi.net has the two videos, one leading up to the execution, the other one actually showing him drop (recorded rather badly on a camera phone)

I remember saying "wow, I wonder if they've already got the video up on the web so the sickos can watch his little feet twitching..." right after I saw the news that night.

I don't exactly support the death penalty in our country, but for Iraq and it's people, this seems to have been the only fitting way to bring him to "justice" in a very final way. What they call justice and what I call justice may differ greatly though.

according to yahoo, the video got leaked about 3 hours after the execution. all cell phones were supposed to be confiscated but they are saying personal body guards might have smuggled some in

the have supposedly arrested whoever made the video, but its already out there so its too late rofl

tasteful trivia: the last thing saddam heard was the small crowd shouting GO TO HELL!
