Author Topic: Would you like Quad damaged added to the center arena on Q2dm1? (Read 9291 times)

Okay so this is something myself and a couple other players have wanted for quite some time now. I think it would be pretty interesting if there could be a modified version of q2dm1 that has Quad damaged added to the center arena much like Quake 4's version of Q2dm1. Q2dm1 is a great map and of course many of us love the map, but I think this would make quite the interesting game play change on the map. I'm wondering if a version of Edge could possibly be added to a server like this? I know I'm not the only person who's requested it and I think many other players would actually enjoy it once they gave it a try. I'm more or less wondering if this is even possible without it causing any kind of major issues. I know you have mentioned before Quadz that all the servers share the same Baseq2 directory so I'm not sure if you could do this at only one location without it adding the Quad Damage to the center of the map on all tourney servers. Obviously you are the expert on this kind of stuff.

By the way, I was going to create a poll, but I'm either missing something or apparently have forgotten how to do it

. So just post here with your opinion on what you think. I only play TDM if any of you aren't aware so that's the mod I'm talking about having this alteration done on. I honestly do think this would be a very fun fresh of breath air on this old map most of us really enjoy. Maybe we could also get a red armour added into the shotgun room as well

it would kick ass, as a variation of dm1 that is.. perhaps dm1qd or something, sounds good

it would certainly force players to move around more instead of reading a book in mega. adding a quad has it's strengths and weaknesses. the only way to see how good it is will be to run the experiment

. i am in favor of red armor in shotgun room as well as a counter to all the goodies in mega :evilkin:

where do you guys think the armor should be placed in the sg room?
the only place I can envision it would be on top of the crates...
(RA would be cool to offset the 2 YA..)

I was thinking the same thing Whirling. On top of the crates would probably be the best spot for it. I actually think it would be needed to kind of counter-act the quad damage a bit. This is the way it is on Quake 4 actually. I'm just interested to try it out and see how it actually is during game play. It may be incredibly fun and a nice change of pace or not as enjoyable as one would think. I'm really interested in trying it out.

I think it would be really interesting to have some more powerful items on the lower floors, since most of the goodies are currently spread from the level of the CG upwards.. The only problem I could think of would be how easy/fast you can get from those crates to the quad in the arena and be a fully armored smurf from spawning on either of the 3 pads near the SG..

you'd still have to come up with a decent weapon, but even the SG is impressive with a quad...

Element PM'd me on IRC a few weeks ago about this:

[16:42] <[2c]10zx> i got a request for item alteration in a map
[16:42] <[2c]10zx> q2dm1, put the quad int eh center of the arena, and put a red armour under the stairs int eh shotgun room

So that's one other idea for the RA placement...

Yes Red and Quad would balance each other out.
And like Dahang said, it would keep people from "Holding the Fort" in the Mega room
So when can we play this new beast???
