I am looking for someone that is willing to open DARK018.bsp, the attached map, and change the names of the directories that the .bsp calls on for locating it's textures. I have completed editing/finding the textures, but since I have become horrably stuck on a mac I am not able to open and edit .bps. The only way I can release a retexture is if I find someone that's willing to help. Please help!
The easiest way to edited the directories would be to change the names of the 11 folders it calls on. You could however change the names of all the texture, but this would take far longer. So, if someone is willing to help... rename the folders it calls on say ze1 through ze11, and then it will not matter if the texture name remains the same.
Here are a few scrnshots of the retexture.

I believe q3map2 (the de-facto map file compiler) can decompile .bsp files to .map files. Why not give that a shot? Then you can either work in a level editor like GtkRadiant, or even in any old text editor. When you've finished, just recompile the map (and release it with a different name?).

Or, even better, just contact the map author and ASK HIS PERMISSION to do all of this. If he agrees, I'm sure he'll offer you his .map file.

if that's the dark018 I know of, the author should be SOB[WOS]. he's a really nice guy, I'm sure if you ask him, he can help you.

Gees, WinBsp will convert any Quake 2 bsp file to a .map file. It does it in under 5 seconds. Its a very small program. Here it is in a zip file.

While these decompilers do a decent job, I have to agree with jdolan: make a good attempt to contact the original author before futzing around with the map sources.
Of course, if the author is long gone, then I wouldn't have any objections to going ahead with that, but at least make a good attempt.

Well I was looking for either someone that was willing to help me compile the map or a way I could do it on a mac. If you will ntice I said "I HAVE BECOME STUCK ON A MAC," (and have to use os x 10.2.
and thereforeknow of no options for compiling q2 maps. So, yes winbsp will do the job, but not for me. and yes GtkRadiant could do it, but I have that issue of having to use 10.2.8.
But no doubt... contacting the author is a must before a public release.
