Ethics Based Server?

Well if it's FFA like Vanilla or DM... I'm going to kill the people just standing there. FFA is chaos, if I don't kill you, somebody else will. So what's the difference? I'm also going to kill complete noobs, people shooting me with the blaster, people shooting the wall with a blaster, people trying to jump into stupid areas for no good reason... I don't care, I'm going to play to win and win I shall. If you're AFK or just standing there, to bad. You have the option to disconnect, do what you have to do and connect again when you're ready to play. Just how I see things... 

However a few things do apply where I will not kill you.

If we are having a good battle and you lag still... I won't kill you.
If you are a player I know and respect and I see you AFK, I will tend not to kill you as well.


I think the only time I don't shoot a AFK person period is in RA2, UNLESS they are the very last member left on their team. Then they have to die.

Dude,  everything you just described here is EXACTLY what the experience is like when I join
a server full of nothing but BTF. 

if I AFK a sec in console to fix a setting,  or record a demo,  usually on a pad, I see everyone
just walkin past me.

Maybe 4 years ago mate....this certainly isn't the case now. There are a couple of BTF out there who don't discriminate between good/noob, active/inactive, playing/typing and they will waste you with extreme prejudice. If they see you even stood on a spawn pad they will frag you.

But yeah about 3 maybe 4 years ago they used to have good standards. Now I'm afraid 90% of BTF are just bastards who will fuck you in the arse for a cheap frag and then gloat.

I don't think the ethical server will work for the pure and simple fact there is nobody left in the Q2 community who hasn't been poisoned by this shitty fragging attitude.

That's BS and I think you know it. Would you like for me to send you all my demos showing me leaving spawn sitters alone? How bout a demo showing me tutering a new player on mutant about armor and such where I teach him to respectfully leave the Spawn sitter alone?

Don't get me wrong, I've killed my share of spawn sitters and AFKers and made them like it, in fact, before the TS500 3 I blastered Quads to death knowing full well he was typing, but i was also just havin fun with him too. But the more time i've spent with BTF the less i've done it. In fact now I even have and use a key binded to kill, so i can rectify a accidental AFK or spawn kill.

On another note, i had a dream two nights ago that gave me this idea.  i have tried for two days, and havent been able to produce anything cuz i have no skillz at all.

Anyways, here was what came out of the dream.  For  the server to have a logo, the logo being a Beaming Sun over a Pyramid.

Then i wanted to create skins in male, female, and cyborg models with this logo on it.  This skin would be worn on the Ethics Server, or on the TastySpleen Server to show your intentions.  Your code of conduct.  It would show other players the way you expected yourself to treat people, and the way you would like to be treated yourself.  That code of conduct would of course be the Ethics Server rules.  Anyways, that was my idea, but i havent been able to make anything come to fruition out of it, i have no photoshop, i have no photoshop skills, and i have no skin editing skills.  If someone would like to contribute media or further ideas, have at it.

I'd get with Dukie and see if he'd put out some skins for the cause.

Must be coincidence but I'm working on a 'new' model for q2. I took the standard grunt model and I'm now trying to combine it with the female ponytail (with better animations). It's nothing spectacular but I think it has just enough character to stand out. With the right skins it kind of looks like an honorable samurai;). I will finish this model anyway but since I like the idea I might give that logo-skin a go once the model's animations are ready. (See preview image below. This is just some custom male skin (6swat3 or something) but as you can see it seems to work on the model with ponytail.) I'll post the thing in the skins/models section when it's done.

When I was playing FFA, these were the rules I played by and/or how the server was set up.

Keep the chaingun! One of my fav. weapons.
People with only a blaster - kill them =P Who knows if they've already had 10 frags and just recently ran out of ammo?!
No trash talking. (unless it's all in good fun and you're pals. =])
BFG ON/OFF - either way is okay with me.
Invul / PS / Quad stays, only because it's such a victory kill when you kills the quad or PS person... or blast the invul dude into the lava!! and it makes the game so much more fun. Plus, it sucks to have the invul and fall into the lava. hahaha. (such as Q2DM3) AND... Invul beats Quad/PS.
Spawn with a blaster, machineguns and shotguns are powerful if you're good with them!
Disallow spawn killing and/or have spawn protection for like 2-3 seconds, if they fire their blaster or grab a weapon, the spawn protection goes off
Disallow typing-kills and facing the wall/AFK kills

It takes time and lots of advertising to get people to play on a different server. There may be more ethical players than you may think. Don't give up on it, Gat.! =)

The ethics server has been added to the "goto" list.

You can access Ethics Server by "goto ethics".

However, this experiment has run the exact course i thought it would.  It sits empty.  I will leave it up as a viable play option for anyone who would care to use it.

But to me, it shows the core root of the issue.  i made an attempt to offer all the people who cry about how others are playing.  None of them go to the Ethics server that is set up to provide the physics they request (No bfg, no quad, no spawn kills).  They want to play in a large group of people.  But they want everyone else to follow thier own personally set rules, when the server is providing something different.

Yeah. People seem to like to request things and once they get their way they don't want it anymore.

Same thing with the jailbreak server, vanilla2 and some others... and it will be the same for the Rogue server if that's ever made. I don't understand it really...

I wish people played jailbreak, that mod was fun.
