Ethics Based Server?

i have given this thought for a long time.

Let's try a project.  See where it goes.

Everyone seems to get upset about a group of people not playing by an individuals set of ethics.

So i propose we set up a server that is admin'd by people who want to have a place to play under an AGREED set of ethics.

What is needed:
An AGREED set of ethics and rules.
1.  No Spawn kills?  Sit on a pad all day, and player should be allowed to live.
2.  No Type Frags?  Face a wall, to show you are afk in some form, and you should be allowed to sit there all day.
3.  No BFG.  Should it be removed from server?  Or should we have it there just so you can fight the temptation to use it?
4.  No Chaingun.  Should it be removed from server?  Or should we have it there just so you can fight the temptation to use it?
5.  No Quad, Invulnerability, PowerShield, or other powerups.  Should it be removed from server?  Or should we have it there just so you can fight the temptation to use it?
6.  No firing on people with a blaster only.  Just becuase it fires, and causes damage doesnt make it an actual weapon.  Allow players to get to another weapon before you kill them as they touch it.  Or maybe you should let them touch it, then get three steps.  Or five.

Anyways, you can see that some pretty detailed rules need set up.  Once agreed to, they can be placed in the MOTD for all to see on entry.  Spawning into the game is a statement of agreement to follow those rules, or face some action of enforcement.  Enforcement can be by ref_password given to some agreed to list of people who care enough about an Ethics Server to use the responsibility and ability for the good of ALL.  Definately, this is the most dangerous thing.  An Objective, Non-biased Admin.  This will require alot of patience, and alot of commitment.

i'll set up a server later today.  First i'd like some feedback on the idea and the exact rules wanted.  Obviously, in the beginning, some rules may need to be played with and or changed, but the MOTD must be the letter of the law to be lived up to.

Other things to decide:
Mod type.  FFA DM seems the clear leader here, although multiple mods are easy to offer on one server.
Maplists.  Multiple maplists are available by vote.

i have listened to the cry of a lack of ethics for a long time.  But everytime i offer something, nobody wants to do anything about it.  Here is your chance to put up or shut up.

Now, it needs players that want to live by the stated rules, and admins.  For referee_password, pm me here.  Otherwise, server is controlled by the vote key, including kicking.

Current setup:
No bfg
No quad
No Powershield
No Invulnerability


One thing i haven't mentioned, is freedom of speech.  Admin for freedom of speech and opinion?

I personally enjoy blastering fools and its an awesome way to spam while saving ammo. Would I be forced to go find a better weapon before I could kill people?

Well, at this point, the rules are a bit open.  Nothing is stated about blastering.  My personal feelings are completely set aside for this server, as i dont agree with half the rules in the MOTD.  But at this point there is nothing stated about that in the MOTD.  And there are no current admins, so i guess its free for all!

2) no magic stuff, BFG etc.

3) YES Blaster frag's ! I've taken rail guns with that.

4) no trash talk. insta boot !  lol

5) no q2dm1 and q2dm8, we have all played them to death ! , luv the custom maps.

6) no fraggen blaster players.

7) yes, it will take a lot of patience. bottom line........... NO BS

i agree.  Not killing a person who steps off the spawn pad just seems to go COMPLETELY against how i think the game should be played.  i played on >FAS> server for quite a while.  The rules there were:No Spawn kills, and No Type Kills.  The general rule of thumb there was let a player get to a gun, but if he blastered you, he was open for fire.  i truly personally believe, that anything physically possible in the game, should be used for an individuals benefit.  It is DEATHmatch by the way.  What i am trying to respond to, is that people keep yelling for some form of ethics in game.  However everyone you ask has thier own opinion of what that is.  It will be challenging to find a set of rules all want to play to.  As a majority, i think most players on all of  TastySpleen, live by the anything goes ethics.  i am merely trying to find out what is not being met on these servers, and trying to offer something to those that repetively claim they are being robbed of some form of enjoyment in the game.

It will no doubt take time to get some idea what the majority of this minority wants for rules.

but i dont shoot at someone with a blaster unless its tdm or they shoot me first, i just figure its polite

i still have a tendancy to shoot the sky when i have a blaster.. i guess im just an old skool ffa kinda guy

This ought to be a very interesting experiment indeed! Just watching people try to follow whatever is laid down in the MOTD will make for a very interesting game experience Can they do it? Will they do it? The possibilities boggle the mind.
