Please download the http://antiche.at it's obvious that others are hacked because I play against people all the time that use them to cheat. r1q2 + anticheat.dll uses server/client for authentication and is more secure. Thanks

But we'd be fascists if we forced it on them.

I'd say anyone who accuses another of hax should be using the *only* currently updated anticheat software for quake2.

If you're wondering where the anticheat.dll and your anticheat capable client should go, then your answer is:

"C:\quake2\"

(replace the "C:\" with the appropriate drive letter.)

If you put it in baseq2 I'm not sure it will be found.

Users running a 64bit OS will not be able to connect to the servers if AntiCheat is forced. So pretty much everyone who buys a new computer won't be able to connect.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe when you install XP64 you can elect to install both 32 and 64 libraries so you can run either software, the early beta version i played with worked that way???

In your analogy, the (proven) cheater (criminal) is forced to use the anticheat, which I would agree with. But you go on to say eveyone should be forced to use it, regardless of guilt or intention. In this case your analogy should have read ... it's like saying that no one shall be admitted untill stripped searched and proven not capable of robbing the bank.

I personally have no problem with using R1ches AC but, as already mentioned, forcing the ac client(s) not only alienates non windows users (which I'm sure there's more than two of), but renders all other legitimate clients useless, not to mention the newbie that just installed q2. This is a little TOO totalitarian, or fascist, for my personal liking.

Not sure about forcing an accuser of using AC. In grannys case I might make an exception, but it'd probably make him worse (accusing).
Forcing the anticheat on confirmed cheaters, if possible, rather than a ban would however make all the sense in the world.
1) it would give them a second chance, possibly to cleaning up their act.
or
2) they would persist in trying to find ways around the anticheat, which should help to debug and add new detection.
or
3) they'd disapear, never to be seen again

The 1-2-3 scenerio above should be a win-win-win situation for all concerned.
