Dell XP Home Restore CD?

Does anyone know where i can download a Dell XP Home restore cd? I am working on a Dell PC with no restore cd or restore files on the disk. I have a legal and valid license key but cannot install windows without the oem cd. Dell won't provide one.

I work with Dell alot, in fact I just made 953,475 phone calls to them while being placed in the middle of their circle jerk, just to get a replacement lcd for a customers Laptop.

They are very particular about Ownership, Service Tags and Express Service codes. If it is in your name, they should provide a Disk, probably for a fee. But if it is in someone else's name, they will have to get it for you. If they can't or won't, you'll be forced to buy a WinXP disk, install, and download all the drivers manually.

well I'll take a look around my storage room.. I probably have 30 of them, from all the desktops in the office.
Just have to find a way to rip it and host it, or maybe a mailing address to send it to!

Believe me I don't go near Dell. I build my own pcs, that way I know I am the only one with control over it The CD is needed for a friend of mine who gave me their pc to fix as a favor. Naturally as soon as I uninstalled the first piec of spyware the hard disk corrupted and now the pc takes 45 minutes to boot up and cannot be backed up

Very possible to backup files off any hard drive. Especially in your case where your hard drive isn't the part failing. Easy fixes.

not exactly easy to get the data off a failed drive
i think the easiest solution is this
put linux on a cd with a cd buning package
or use a linux live cd like knoppix, the install a cd burning software (yum, can be installed by install yum or close to that)
then burn the data you need to disk
you can't copy to another disk, unless it's fat, so use ftp, or burn to a cd like this, or use samba to connect to windows shares

you can run into problems if you try to boot to another version of windows with a new disk

Got it installed, would you believe I used my laptop's HP restore cd. It installed windows with no crapware just like the retail version. It automatically put my laptop's key in there  but I changed it to the dell one and all is fine.

brand name computers, especially DELL!! are garbage
roll your own, and you wont have these problems
