I've never seen this error before and I've been using anticheat and r1q2(both very recent copies) for a while now using Xfire as my browser.
tonight, upon connecting, I was kicked for an "Anticheat Violation"!?!?!?! supposedly for using Xfire as my server browser.
Unfortunately it's the only one that can actually find a decent number of servers these days.
ASE is quite dead.
the rest are utter crap.
I think the anticheat "protection" may be goin a teency bit too far this time.
It's annoying enough that I had to download yet another .dll just to connect without being nagged, but now it's gonna force me to delete it's worthless ass.

Howdy,

I'll ask r1ch if he might respond here in more detail. I saw r1ch mention this on IRC the other night, that Xfire somehow modifies OpenGL(!)

Obviously if some program modifies OpenGL, there would seem to be no way to protect against wallhacks.

But I don't have all the info as yet...

well for now I've moved the offending .dll to a subfolder where r1q2 can't find it.
It's not a life threatening problem, I just don't like being kicked for doing nothing.

I will anxiously await R1Ch's explanation as to how my Xfire is modifying anything.
Hopefully he will have some insight that will help me to prevent the browser util
from doing whatever it is, that it's doing wrong, and allow me to continue using the
best server browser around and his powerful anticheat add-on.

I like em both, but if I had to trade, anticheat wouldn't be a priority. I suck, so proving
that I don't cheat probably isn't gonna be that tough on my own.

Xfire modifies OpenGL and D3D memory for the "in game messaging" feature, which makes it indistinguishable from a wallhack. How exactly is ASE dead? I use it as my main server browser, I can filter by anticheat enabled servers, R1Q2 servers and everything.

Several people have suggested having a cvar to eliminate the
nag when not using an AC client. Would that help? Other
suggestions also invited.

The nag message in the latest R1Q2 server is much less annoying, if you're not using b6770 I suggest you update.

well, now that I've seen the alternative (getting booted!) the nag message doesn't seem quite so bad anyways..

I'll probably use the cvar to block it when/if it's implemented.

a program is dead when its no longer updated, and there is no sign of anyone developing it

xfire is bloatware, it doesnt surprise me that its doing something like that
i fully support r1ch for banning this(and that has nothing to do about me not liking it), no program should do this

i suggest qtracker, which is better IMO

I have been using anticheat for about 3 or 4 weeks and all has been fine. I have not quaked very much in the last two weeks and I was bored and decided to have a frag or two this past weekend.

When I logged on to any of the tasty servers I got the nag that I was not using anit cheat. So I used the updater today and a new .dll file was downloaded and automatically installed. Low and behold I am still getting the anti cheat nag.

Any ideas what's up with that R1ch??

The .dll is in the Q2 directory and I even put one in my baseq2 just to see if that might help the situation.

Do you run Windows XP 64bit? AntiCheat doesn't work with 64bit Windows...

Nope, just good old XP Pro, 32 bit etc etc.
