Server stats... what's up?

I know how busy you are quadz, but I figured I'd throw some ideas out there anywho.

First off, the stats are an awesome thing that would be ever more awesome with more automation (which would be a benefit on your part) and presented information. One idea I had, was that in addition to the posted stats files, you would also have the raw server logs synced as well, with monthly archives. This would allow those with log parsers such as gibstats to be able to play with these to their hearts content

Furthermore, as it is indeed another bit of workload, I would suggest finding somebody to hand that particular job over to. Then we could all blame him when something goes wrong

Elysium brought up some possibilities of integrated stats boxes in the forums, maybe for tracking leaders and whatnot. Remember though, a lot of us are stats junkies, and the more information we have available, the happier we tend to be

I've intended to switch over to a database driven system, where the stats would be kept up-to-date in realtime.

The scripts I have now, mine all the data from scratch each time, and are too CPU and RAM intensive to run except when the servers are mostly empty... and I never automated it, and I'm often not up late enough to start it manually.

As far as making the server logs public, that could be done - but I'd have to filter out all the IP addresses.  (And rcon password, if it appears in the log.)

Mainly, I'm just sort of at a point where, with what free time I do have, I'd rather play q2 than work on sysadmin stuff.   

So my TO-DO list is gathering cobwebs.

But I'll set up the stats to run tonite...

Sounds awesome, but this reinforces why I would like to see some trusted people helping you out. As the community grows, either you will burn yourself out (pessimistic, I know, but it's a possibility), or you will enlist some help and be able to cope.

Well, it's one thing to trust people with the referee password on the tourney servers, or moderator priv's on the forums... but something else entirely to trust someone with shell access to an account with direct access to the raw server logs (for ex.)

I'm welcome to ideas, though...  It's true I could copy the logs someplace for public access (if I ran a script over them to sanitize them)... dunno....

I realize that it's tough to be able to do that, but I'm just pondering the amount of workload you really want to bother yourself with.

Thanks, i am a stats junkie too.  My world has never been the same since theclq died. :/  Nothing has come close.  i have that one cool arstatsgen program, but no idea how or ability to use it.  But it sure made for a nice looking stats page for LOF Gumby's server.
