Spawn with rg?

Hello, this is my first post here but I've been reading for months.

I swear, on a few occasions I've seen people spawn with a railgun.

hmm I don't think that's possible unless people have figured out how to actually change a server command like "set cheats 1", or something like "set start_weapon 1" + "set start_railgun 1" ....nahh...dont think that's possible for a connected client. However some players use the r1q2 client which has a cl_defermodels [0/1] feature. (from the readme: Defer model loading for faster connection times. Default 1). I also use it and even with a higher ping than the average player I usually enter a map slightly earlier than most of the others. This could mean that in that brief period (of a couple of seconds) a player could have just picked up the rail. But if you mean you've actually seen people spawn in front of your eyes with a railgun then I don't know. Maybe they were just camping right on top of a spawnpad armed with rail?

First, I have to say I find your name hilarious.  I actually heard from a q2 friend that a bunch of guys followed your lead and named themselves "Recycle Bin" and "My Computer" while playing.  Hilarious!

With high confidence I can say that there is no cheat that gives you the rail gun.  Only the server you are playing on can give it to you.  So if the server has cheats enabled, "give railgun" will give it to you (meaning everyone on the server can do it).  Or if the server is playing a rail arena mod, you can spawn with the railgun.

I seem to recall the occasional map, where a spawn point is also a teleporter destination.  (?)

If so, then sometimes players would appear to "spawn" fully loaded on those pads...

Its a simple mod to spawn with a railgun. GOTO the Gumby server. Its on there now.....
