i dont understand why there are any byes whatsoever, if the guy says he doesnt want to play anymore, he gets replaced, what about some dipshit who just forgot or doesnt care to let us know, then his opponent gets a bye? im sure his opponent will be real happy to hear about that, however the people on the waiting list? i doubt they will like that

this is a 64 player tourney, lets keep it that way, lotsa people wanted to get into this tourney and were not allowed to because cap was reached, there is no reason for any byes in the first round if we have willing and able players, anyone who can not or will not make the first round deadline SHOULD be replaced

on top of that i think we should also have a deadline to POST when peoples matches will take place, i dont think it will be efficient to wait until the match deadline to decide who isnt going to show up because in that case, we have to wait even longer if people are going to get replaced, thats the only rational i can think of for having byes, but this can be remedied, make wednesday the deadline for people to post their match dates, if they dont do it by then, then they should be replaced, giving the replacements until say saturday or sunday to play their opponents, this way we dont delay the tournament too much over no shows, if people drop out of the tournament later on in the rounds, well then we will have to do byes, because it wouldnt be fair to start someone off after someone has advanced for them, but this is merely the first round, it would not be unfair to replace all no shows

on top of that last night two people did not show up for their SCHEDULED matches, this isnt fair to the players who do show up for their matches, i suggest for the next couple of rounds we make some changes to ensure people show up for their matches except under real emergencies, its ok if its before the MATCH deadline, but if they go over the POSTING deadline, then i feel that they should be replaced, for instance say leviathan, if he does not post a rescheduling reply or contacts chacal by wednesday, replace him, on top of that i would like LESS matches scheduled for friday and saturday nights, it is inevitable that some people WILL flake on these days, also saturday and sunday mornings may end up having a few flakes too, people need to think about that before scheduling their matches

in my opinion, for whatever its worth, a dropout is a dropout. However nasty or nice it is.
Now a reschedule is an entirley different matter. If someone has to change their time it should be ok.
But if someone derops out I don't think and automatic bye should be given.
The arguement has been presented that the first replacement would be Naymlis and that he would win.
To bad.
This tournament was seeded 1 thru 64, not on how strong or weak the players are, but on in the order the applied.
Going by that order you could have someone who just started playing Q2 a month ago going against Thresh.
So it does not matter who replaces who.
Defense rests.

thank you dookie, the first reply to my original post that has substance to it, i really appreciate it, the argument has been posed, now it is up to the regulators of this tourney to make the neccessary changes, or explain why this would be a bad change

Personally I don't mind people not showing up for first round matches being replaced. I did the same for the smackdown tourney and it worked well, most people got to play the games they were supposed to, and the best players moved on anyway. If there are people on the waitinglist it's very frustrating to see people inside the tourney not even bothering to show up or let the admins know they have no time to play and withdraw instead. At least for the first round replacing would be nice, later in the tourney of course people shouldn't be replaced in the same way. The argument that the player in the waitinglist is too good, or that someone will face a better oponent in the first round than they originally would is not really a good argument in my eyes. The setup for first round was a random drawing anyway, if it had been based on ranking the matter would be different. However I think the replacing should be done in time so the people actually having a tight schedule will be able to reschedule and play their games they orginially scheduled but where opponent didn't show up. If no initiative has been done by either to schedule or shown any sign of being alive just replace them. The tourney will only be delayed by players who have little intrest and too lazy to set their games up. Think people being active and showing some dedication towards playing should be rewarded instead of people signing up before they realized what they did.

Anyway, whatever you chose to do I'm fine with it

I say whoever was in the tourney when the limit to be in it was cut off, should be the only ones playing, if someone doesnt show up, well on to the next round for that person.

You raise good points Banes.

People not giving any answer (sign of life) before Wednesday Noon -EST- will be replaced, as much as possible (Waiting list may not be big enough).

I will start a thread in Matches concerning drop out/Waiting list so as to make this visible and updated.

However, people who answered, and tried to schedule a match - but have failed to do, before the Deadline will not be replaced. One thing we're not gonna do is give additionnal time outside the Week-Round - Otherwise the tourney drags on & on and people who played their game a week-ago are losing interest in waiting for their opponent. And that way - we start losing control.

As for players not showing up to their Matches. we have no rules concerning that. And we don't know the reason they had to not show up. We will not boot players out because they didn't show at their game. If they really didn't care about it - they will eventually tell they have no more interest, otherwise it's RL Issues - and we won't boot players because they have real life responsibilities. They actually have more right than the 'waiting list' players to participate in. So they will be given their whole week to reschedule. But if they fail to schedule before deadline - they will not be replaced, they will be dq'ed (BYE) (One of them that is). (Exemples so far: adren vs diavolo, applejacks vs freak).

Good solution Laurelin,

After the first round all drop-outs should be byes. No waiting list players should get inserted into the bracket past the first round.

Props on the hard work you and others are doing to make this happen. So far I think it is running pretty good, hope it stays that way.
