Metal. Not Metalcore.
I left out Pantera yet included Down. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate their music, I just find Down's style and sound a little more aesthetically appealing.

They need to stop bleeding out their 'vadges' and start shoving knives up 'vadges'

down seems more like pink floyd to me, nice reefer smoking music
I probably wouldn't know what metalcore is if I heard it. Describe it and give a few bands that exemplify that description.
Down II wasn't the same kind of metal that Pantera always brought. It was more like stoner-metal. They included a lot of different unconventional instruments on that album, lap steel guitars, organs, acoustic guitars. Some of it had a bayou blues feel to it, even a few elements of jazz fusion. Just made for some interesting and expressive songs. That album came on the heels of Phil Anselmo getting clean from heroin, I thought he put a lot of soul into those songs, some his best lyrical work ever in my opinion. I've heard a little bit from the latest Down III, but I've yet to buy it. From what I've heard, it's a little different from II, and still pretty progressive.
