Can't use quake SOS

When I try to launch quake, all I get is a message that reads:

  "Couldn't load pics/colormap.pcx"  

Does anybody have any advice?  The cow wants to come home.

Also, were you accessing q2 thru a shortcut?  Sometimes they become corrupt for some reason .... the orig .exe in the q2 folder should still wrk....

make sure all the pak files are in the baseq2 directory..the reason it shows that is because, for some reason, its not seeing them..

if this doesnt work, take quest's advice and try making another shortcut.

I get that if I try to launch the game from the command line and I'm not starting it from the Quake2 folder (the command line is c:\windows or something and I try to run "c:\quake2\quake2.exe".  If I "CD" to the Quake2 folder on the command line and start the game, no errors like you posted.  Probably just editing my PATH variable would take care of that annoyance, but haven't gotten around to it.
