Currently it: can't run more than once every 2 hours... after the 2 hours are up, then it's a 5% chance on each map until it hits.... then the 2 hour wait, ... repeat...

We ran an ultraquad mode on one map a few days ago, people seemed to like it.  (There were quads _everywhere_, plus infinite ammo.)  Thinking of tossing something like that into the mix (either instead of the grav lotto or coin toss between the two...) ...

Just a whacky idea...

Haha, I was actually playing on the vanilla server yesterday when we won the gravity lotto, and played this map with sv_gravity 400, but the map was well designed for low gravity meaning it was already a very vertically based map, and I actually hit a couple really nice airrockets on people falling from the top of the map and down to the bottom. I can't say it hurt, looked like people enjoyed it. I wont like it if it happens too often, but everyone once in a while it doesn't hurt.

But don't ever try that on the tourney server!

Thanks for the reply Console. I thought it was like 100 to 1 for the lotto. It is nice try different things on the maps. It keeps the game interesting after these years.

this is why i like tastyspleen they can make it fun and interesting without having to put custom maps in
i say they need to do this more often

Besides, have you ever played dm1-8?  ...Why?  Everyone but n00bs knows the DM maps weren't part of the original game and thus can't be considered the default settings.

Heh well... If by "high" you mean "low" then I'm guessing you mean the space station map. 

The logic is like this:

    if ($new_map_name eq 'space'  &&  $lotto_ok  &&  (rand() >= 0.95)) {
      $funky_grav = 1;
      respond("rcon sv_gravity 800");
    }

...i.e. it can make the space map run at normal grav. (800) instead of its default low grav. (100)

However..... I see now there is also a bug, which can make the regular grav. lotto gravity (400) also possible for the space map...   So that would cause the space map to run at 400 instead of 100.. which wasn't really intended.

So thank you for helping me find a bug!

We have gone professional here and are getting a bit too PC.

Professional?    More like a hole in the Internet i pour money into.

Maybe I'll try selling T-shirts <grin>.  But anyway everone involved in keeping the servers going and tournament organized etc. has volunteered their own time. ... Er, not to get too sappy...    <cue violins>

But I'm interested in what's giving you that PC vibe.  Note that xquake is running under its old-skool settings with quad, powershield, no spawn-protect, etc...  So vanilla isn't trying to be an exact clone of xquake.  But certainly don't want it to be bland, either.

Open to suggestions...
