Need your help: OpenGL FBO Driver Test
« on: August 08, 2006, 12:27:36 PM »
HOW ARE YOU GENTLEMEN.

If you have a moment, could you try this OpenGL test out on your Windows system?

  http://tastyspleen.net/~quadz/frame_buffer_test.zip

Should just need to unzip, then run FrameBufferObjectTest.exe

Please let me know a) whether it worked, and b) what FPS you got.  (Oh yeah, and what video card you have, and whether your drivers are up-to-date?  Thx!)

Note: I didn't write this demo, but it uses a new OpenGL feature called "Frame Buffer Objects" (FBO).  I'm wanting to use FBO in my own application, if it works on enough people's systems.  In theory, FBO is supposed to work even on very old graphics cards, IF you have new enough drivers.

Thanks for your help!

Was able to run it, that is a sweet looking sphere  . At the default placement, I got 20fps. When I moved a little further back from it (sphere was a tad larger than the size of a half-dollar on screen), I got up to 60fps. I'm using a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 with up to date drivers on WinXP. Hope this helps  :smiley_aaaf:

I tried it on both my boxes. All I get is a screen saying "Loading demo, please wait" for less than a second, then it all disappears, like Whirlingdervish(Q2C) said.

it made it to the screen that says "Loading Demo, please wait" then the application closed
without warning or a message box or anything. nothing further happened.

I'm using
XP sp 2
p4 1.6ghz
1gb ram
ATI Rage 128 pro Ultra Gl card (16mb)  w/ a fairly old driver (7/3/01)

Thanks for trying it.  I suspect it wouldn't work on an ATI Rage 128 pro, even with the newest drivers possible.  :'(

I tried it on both my boxes. All I get is a screen saying "Loading demo, please wait" for less than a second, then it all disappears, like Whirlingdervish(Q2C) said.

3dfx Interactive, Inc. Voodoo3
Driver version: 5.0.2080.1
Driver date:     7/17/1999

Thanks.  I think there's no chance of it working on the voodoo3.  It's possible it could work on the GeForce2 with very recent drivers, but I dunno.  (Not that I would ask you to risk trying that. :))

Same problem here, loading demo, then vanishes.
Nvidia GeForce4 MX4000

Thanks.  As I recall from our discussion on IRC, you even tried the latest drivers, and still no-go.  I was surprised, because from what I've read, it sounded like FBO's should work on any card in the GeForce series, with the latest drivers.  Oh well...   :raincloud:
