how do u make a server i have WIN XP is it possible me and my friends really want to play jjust by ourselfs plz help me

it's quite simple to do..

but before I provide the details, let me assure you, if you want to get better at Q2, just playing on your own server with a few friends won't assist you much in that category.

all you need to do is goto your multiplayer options and select create a server.. set your dmflags and away you go.
give your friends your IP, and have them connect.

what he said ^^ .. providing..:

1) ports are forwarded correctly
2) you have a static ip
3) your pc is powerful enough and your connection is sufficient to hold the players

well i did the dmflags and i didnt work in and im in the middle of tryin that r1q2 if that does not work im am then going to try to get that last program >_< see i dont kno if this makes a difference but 2 of the ppl that want to play are in my home network and we are tryin to get the other person to get in ... we've been working on just getting him in for like 2 hours now >_<

tourneyCE is just a program to help you set up the server. There are LOTS of different settings you can change, this makes it easier than modifying configs and whatnot.
Go to File > Open. Open up "dmonly.cfg" in your tourney folder. Then go to File again and hit Run Quake 2!

The 3rd player problem sounds like a router issue... are you sure you're giving him your internet IP? (not your network ip, which would look like this: 192.168.0.100)

BTW, you dont have to use TourneyCE... you can always do what Element said.

its not the router he lives in another house we cant seem him to get in tho

no he just cant find our server we give him our ip not network ip and it still doesnt find it

tell him to type connect, then your ip.

EX, typing this into your console will send you to Monsterkill's DM server: "connect 216.32.69.178:27912"

If that doesnt work Its gotta be your router/firewall blocking him.
I've never had to mess with this stuff for quake 2 but try this: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
select your router brand/model and find quake 2.
