James Gang Rides Again

The James Gang (Joe Walsh's first band) is doing a re-union tour. I saw them back in '72 and they were awesome (and loud). Here's a quote from CNN:

First up for Walsh, however, is his first tour with the James Gang in 35 years. The outing begins Aug. 10 in Sturgis, South Dakota. Walsh wouldn't rule out the possibility of recording new music with the trio too, but he quickly added, "I really don't know what to expect. I just don't see a whole lot of improvising rock'n'roll bands out there now, so I think maybe there's a little window here for a spontaneous group like us. I'm excited to see where it goes."

I had "The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get" on 8-track and wore that sucker out. Joe's a better songwriter and slide player than singer, but he had his moments. He recorded alot of good music before he ever became an EAGLE, James Gang stuff included.  I say "you go Joe".

I love that album,  one of my favs I ripped off my dad as I was growing up.  Bomber was such an awesome tune.
That and Ashton Park are indeed some great examples of slide solos

I been a Joe Walsh fan for years..."The Confessor" = one of my personal favourites.  Doesn't he look old now though :/

Yea reunions of these great legendary bands from years ago seems to have a reawakening affect for us old_as_ dirt
senior citizens........... Saw this back last Jan. on PBS.Couldn't wait for the release of this bands live DVD.......

I paid 5 bucks to see these guys at Massey Hall in Toronto. It seems times have changed when I wasn't looking. Even accounting for inflation, I wouldn't pay this.....

I think the Eagles started this trend with their "Hell Freezes Over" tour. In a way, these reunion gigs are sad. Watching old dudes play the same stuff they did 30 years ago just for money seems a bit cheesy. Not that they can't still play, they were good 30 years ago for a reason. With all the sharks in the recording industry, maybe they just need the money. But you're not playing to the average fan who made you famous if you charge $200+ bucks a seat.
