That's basically my strategy in craps. I do nothing but field bets. If I lose one roll, I double up the bet. If I lose that roll, I double it yet again. With greater than 50% odds of hitting one of those numbers, I have a good chance of winning it back. But occasionally I get on a "streak of the damned" and can longer double the bet. I end up walking away with way less than I started with. So of course I head over to the roulette wheel and toss it all on black hoping to double whatever I have.... but alas, the gambling gods hate me and they send me away with nothing.

I had nothing left to double up with. I limit myself to a certain amount of cash in hand when we hit town. Once the cash is gone, that's it. Time to hit the shows or dinner and chase the wife upstairs or head home. Best I ever did was two $100 jackpots one night on a $1 progressive slot machine cluster. Total winnings paid for the trip plus $47. Second best was $90 jackpot on a quarter machine the first night in Vegas while attending CES. Dropped another $400 the rest of the weekend. Where'd that guy go with the "Quit while your ahead" advice?

Came in with 2,000 bucks. Managed to play it smart long enough to turn it into 11,000 bucks over a period of maybe 3 hours. Lost it all on a series of shit rolls in maybe 5 minutes when I got greedy and doubled up on the bets until I ran out of cash. I'm here to tell you, YES, it is possible to roll 8 or 9 times in a row and never hit a number on the field.

Oh well, shit happens.
