Sheridan - Safe mode? / Spinkick bug fix

I was thinking about adding a safe mode feature to sheridan, some kind of way to go into 'safe mode' so you cannot be attacked but you are able to retain your scores and inventory. This would be helpful for obvious reasons as it takes a good amount of time to stock up on everything all over again.

I would require suggestions as to the implementation of it, as many people would likely try or find ways to abuse it.

I was thinking something like safe_mode 1 would start a countdown from 30 seconds. If the player doesn

Hmm, as long as it has a count down where you can't move or fire for 30 seconds I guess it would be alright.

It would be cool because if you're rocking a highscore or streak and everyone leaves the server on you, you can enter the safe mode and afk or whatever till new people join up to play you. Also if you need to go AFK in the middle of playing it would be helpful as well (It can be up to a 3 hour game... so more then likely you may need to afk!).

What would be annoying is people entering the safe mode just to dog you. Say they are streaking and you want to frag them... they enter the safe mode knowing they have zero chance against you so they wait it out till you give up. Of course on the other hand, while in the safe mode they won't be gaining any frags. Letting you catch up to them in frags.

Sounds like a good idea... I can't think of many cons really.  :rockon:

Thank you for fixing the spinkick! It was getting rather annoying having people join up just to abuse it.  :bravo:

If the safe player is moveable, they can be pushed into lava and an unhappy return.

If not, then they could sit on the ps.

Perhaps a safe ROOM is a better approach.  Such as the exit by the hyperblaster.

Maybe an ra2 approach? Ra2 had safe rooms or even put players ontop of the map so they could look down. Maybe just have them enter spectator? (Ahh but they will be able to follow a person and wait for them to be low on everything, join up and hunt them down. That would be kinda weak...)

Making it RA2 style would involve making changes to the map itself. I was just going to have them vanish once they were able to enter safe mode, then when they come out just re-appear where they were standing with all their stuff. That or I could make them come up on one of the random spawn pads. I could make it so they couldn't be pushed though if we wanted them to remain visible with some kind of aura around them while safe.

Yeah I figured that would mean you have to change the map. I think there's a couple spots on the map already that are little rooms you can't access or leave.

The vanishing idea sounds good. Having invicible players running around could be annoying.

The player wouldn't be allowed to move or fire their weapon in safe mode. Otherwise people would go into safe mode, run to the power shield, then come out of safe mode. That would be a ruckas. Even with both the 30 second delays it would be hard to time out the power shield but I'm sure people would figure it out after a while.

When you die on Sheridan there is no forced respawn. So people would lay where ever they died... while laying there you could use the spinkick command and kick people that walked over your corpse. People started to abuse this.

It would however be cool to be able to gib corpses with spinkick.  :evilgrin:

thannnnks! I was trying to go for some sort of streak yesterday, I think I got to about 43 (there was only 4 of us..) and at first 1 started to lay where I kept killing him and doing it, then he stopped some other guy started doing it in important places like the RA and rail teleporter, pretty much ruining it, and then they teamed up to get me to the RA room (needed it.. was stupid to go nevertheless) and they had it bound to mousewheel and spinkicked the shit out of me, ruining the streak.  :LAME:  :grrrr:
