Weapstay

Hi.

I've recently discovered these servers after a 2 year break from Q2 and they're great  Especially Mutant, I've always lurved custom maps.

Just a small suggestion though, which is sure to be rebuffed I'm sure ... 

How about turning weapstay off on Mutant? I can see why it has to be on for the Vanilla server to keep it newbie friendly but since Mutant is publicised as being "experimental" peeps will perhaps expect things to be different.

IMHO weap respawn is a much more skillful game and I personally enjoy it a LOT more.  Benefits are a) it cuts out the vast majority of the camping and spamming and b) a lot more of the map gets to see action rather than just the familiar weapstay hotspots. If there is a downside it is that games become slower and take longer to hit fraglimit. Personally I wouldn't call that a downside at all though ...

I totally disagree..

I think weapons should stay.. (but removing BFG in all maps)..

I dont think there's a lot of camping @ mutant..... cuz @ vanilla... it's CAMPorama

Yeah you don't weapstay off in FFA.

Half the players would be blasting. Even those who'd get guns would run out of ammo after 30secs.
There is too much firing potential.

I remember (plug in strains of violins wafting across the rolling green hills and dancing nymphs tossing daisies around, here) when I first started playing on servers there were no servers (at least very few) that had wepstay enabled - it was a much different way of playing than now. Teams players could really clean up

Oh well... so goes life...

Rofl, Element, hanging out at the rail is what GX'ers call weapon control. DM players refer to that as camping the rail.  Easy way to get frags, but most DM players consinder it cheap as hell.

It is cheap in dm terms...one vs one thats weapon control..and a diff story...I think WS should stay ws+, myself.

It doesn't really matter, it's only actually dm1-8 where weapstay really annoys me. dm2 in particular.

But ... I still maintain it is a much more skillful and enjoyable game. It can give the HPBs a better chance too, not there are many of us about these days.

Also, I actually find ammo to be far more of a problem with weapstay on some maps. You are almost penalised for staying alive, lol.

Whereas, with weap respawn the tendency is to hide for a bit, grab some armor and try to scrounge up a useful secondary weapon (grenades being the favorite) before heading for the hot spots. The effect of this is that a) one shot rail kills are slightly reduced, b) the secondary weapons actually come into play and c) the whole map gets used.

As far as lots of people being stuck with blaster, yes this can be true. It's not necessarily a bad thing though. Some of the most fun games I've had were on dm7 with weapstay off. The sheer ridiculousness of blasting away for hours to kill someone just makes you laugh after a while.

even with weapon stay off, they would still run to the powerful gun hoping it would be there.. how many times do peopel go for the mega in Q2DM3 or Q2DM5, just to see it's not there.. the difference between FFA and TDM players is that FFA just wing it, where TDM players stratigize.  FFA people strive for score, not ability to stay alive.

omg plz take out the BFG...  when I hit the vanilla server all the skillLess newbs always coming around spamming that goddamn gun.  Sux when you finally get a good weap like the r/l or r/g and wham, a big green ball O spam takes you out.

The BFG is a lot less of a problem when it only appears every 30 secs.
