Hello, I've recently found all of these master servers for Quake 2. I thought the online community was dead but I thought not.

Well, my problem is that 90% of the servers (Including tastyspleen) give me a connection refused. I've tried connecting with quake2-icculus, and QuDos, both claiming to be compatible with the latest and greates Quake 2 servers.

A few servers let me connect and play with both quake2-icculus and QuDos, but they are usually unpopulated.

I'd really appreciate some help,

Hi,

It doesn't appear that your IP should be caught in any of our current bans.

I'm not familiar with the clients you mentioned.

You might want to try connecting with a more modern client such as r1q2, and see if that helps?

If not even r1q2 works for you, let me know - we'll have to troubleshoot further.

I am compiling now, are you on IRC or have MSN or AIM? I'd really like to get in a more real-time chat. I really want to play Quake 2 online!!

It will not compile, too bad..!

I am running Linux 2.6.17, I try on my FreeBSD 6.1 and it no work either.

I must play Quake 2 NOW!!! Cannot wait until tomorrow.

the clients hes talking about are modern afaik (not sure about qudos)
but they are for native linux though, like quetoo

quetoo doesn't work. Quake 2 icculus is updated a lot, QuDos is updated every week or so in the SVN. Latest stable release was a couple of months ago..

Interesting.

The author of QueToo posts in these forums and often hangs out on #tastyspleen on IRC, so, if his client isn't working for you I'd imagine he'd be interested to know more about that.

This is a good point. Please make sure you've at least tried connecting with a name other than Player.

I really need to look into why connections are being refused because of that.

At the very least, it needs to say "please choose a unique player name" or something, not just generically block the connection.

That compatible list needs to be updated. I was using a compatible client, Quake 2 Icculus and it didn't work.

how would that not make you able to connect? and how can your skin not be set?
wouldnt default to male/grunt?

q2admin. I have no idea why no default. I must specify my skin like
'skin male'
'skin female'
etc.

I recommend aprq2 for Linux (and Windows, too), it's the best client for quake2, in my opinion, it easily compiles under Linux, and it supports nice things like a clock display while playing, console font resizing (very important when using higher resolutions), extra hud lines of conversations etc. etc.

I also like nocheat which easily compiled as well (version 2.34).

Before these clients I was very satisfied with icculus quake2 (due to the nice colours when using the maxpak option compiled in), but it doesn't support console font resizing.

As to quetoo:
I don't know what else to do (checked all settings in my config files), but I can't use it because my weapon is invisible to me, so when switching weapons I wouldn't know what weapon I have currently enabled - therefore unusable to me. Maybe I will try it again, though.
