I decided to record a random match on grom_dm3 and post it here, since I'm banned from q2players.org.. but I doubt anyone who visits that site will watch a grom demo anyways and I know a few of you like this map and maybe want to pick up on some tips for the tourney. This game is late at night and against a real cool guy, corky.

You'll also need to use r1q2 (click here) to watch this demo since I recorded the game while using it.. for some reason it wont let other clients play them.

Remember this was just a random demo for the demo watchers out there, nothing amazing and nothing to prove

why do you use r1q2, just a matter of curiousity, im using nocheat right now for its opengl driver although im not sure if it even helps me that much

Just as an aside, the reason R1Q2 demos don't play on other clients by default, is R1Q2 uses a newer version of the quake2 network protocol.  Unlike other clients which make various cosmetic changes, R1CH, the developer behind R1Q2, has gone deep into the network code making substantive changes that reduce bandwidth needed, improve performance, eliminate "overflows" entirely, allow compression over the network and allow maps/models to download more quickly, etc.  Very, very nice work... and it's actively being developed.

Not only that, but R1Q2 is the only client/server out there, as far as I know, that fixes all these security vulnerabilites:

R1CH has fixed more since then, including a nasty one in id's client side code...

Anyway R1CH is doing great work in the areas of network performance and security in Quake2... I'd recommend R1Q2 highly. http://www.r1ch.net/stuff/r1q2/

BTW R1Q2 has also been adopted as the official client & server for the Q2 tourneys at this year's QuakeCon.

I'm told R1Q2 has a cvar to disable XP mouse acceleration (which is the default setting.)

I finally tried R1GL today, which is an updated GL driver, which doesn't do super-fancy special effects, but it does let you turn on anistropic texture filtering, full scene anti-aliasing, etc., as well as works with higher res. textures... such as these hi-res replacements for the Q2 textures:

Looks pretty nice.  BTW.. if you do get R1GL ( http://www.r1ch.net/stuff/r1gl/ ), make sure to follow the advice in the readme and use the updater ( http://www.r1ch.net/stuff/r1q2/download/R1Q2Updater.zip ) to get the latest version (fixes a crash.)

Sorry QD... I don't think R1Q2 client works properly on linux, just the server.
(But might get better answers on the R1Q2 forums...)

r1q2 is a great client, the mouse is so smooth if you turn directinput on and maps load super fast. i dont think im gonna be using any other client for a long time. you should switch to it if you're using nocheat imo.

i really dont know, all i know is it makes ur mouse smooth and nice hehe.. it takes off the xp acceleration too.

is it a command tho or does it come default with r1q2
