tastyspleen is like some network now I think, I know they took over the old xquake & sheridan servers that I first played at when I started in 98 and I seen the other day they took over a few more. Kinda cool that theyve organized a tourney tho

Hi there, it was me who wrote that post on www.q2players.org, and it wasn't done with harm in mind. So if anyone feels like you don't want to be exposed to the IRC based tdm scene, just lemme know and I'll just remove the thread. Allthough I seriously doubt it will do much harm as it is now, not that many are using the site, and people using it are just reading with half and eye open. But thought the whole thing was pretty intresting, cause people tend to talk about how dead q2 is, but all they see are players playing on the servers they frequent. Yet, they fail to realize things are being done in order to have fun and keeping the game alive other places. And, it is also a nice break from the common flaming and pessimistic posts that are posted there every so often.

Anyway, to sum it up, the tdm scene in NA is pretty much in a wait-and-see status now,as far as real clanmatches (4v4) goes. And there aren't really many players on tdm/gx servers either.

As far as your tournament I must say I'm looking forward to it. Nice choice of maps too, been playing q2dm1, q2dm3, ztn3dm3 and aerowalk ever so often and all those maps are great. Just downloaded grom_dm3 to take a look at it, and it looks intresting at first view. So good luck with your tournament, and hope maybe a few of you take a closer look at the tdm scene as well. Allthough I'm fully aware of the ego problems that comes with the mod, and the less than friendly attitude towards players new to the mod, I can ensure you there are still some nice guys playing it, and allthough people may not look like it, we are in need of some fresh blood.

And I ran my own 16 players 1v1 tourney not too long ago, and all the demos from those matches are easy to download. Only map on the maplist that weren't used in that tourney is grom_dm3. http://www.challenge-tv.com/index.php?mode=demos&game=5 is where to find the demos, or just go to the demo section on www.q2players.org and just look from the bottom of the first page and backwards. Most of the 1v1 demos to begin with are from that tourney.

If you got a few minutes to spare I would advice you to take a look on a few demos from newer players to see how maps are played. I assume most know q2dm1 pretty well, but for instance aerowalk can get confusing unless you know the teleporters and such

Like you said this is mostly a FFA DM community, but the recent tourney and Banes' smack talk has been
stirring up the old 1v1 bug so there is a little more variety here lately
If you ever get the old FFA bug drop into one of the servers, just watch out for thos dadgum spawn campers

Enjoyed the post on q2players.org.  Re: "lets unite the q2-scenes ..." - sounds downright positive to me.
