Hi all!

The new maps are uploaded!! For the time being, we're trying out maps manually to see which ones play well...

just unzip the maps to your baseq2/maps folder. just make sure when u unzip them u dont put them in lets say map3 folder inside the root map folder.

I just downloaded the 1st maps.zip but it might take a few days to get all of them saved.

I like to play every once in a while too

Ok well i'll be sure to download some of the files but luckily when i downloaded the really big map pack (the 1400 map one) i seem to have gotten most all of the maps with a few exceptions

But i'll be sure to check it out

Should all the .BSP files be in the \baseq2\maps dir?

I got shit everwhere and I'd like to tidy it up..

Is there a directory structer to this crazy train, and if so what types of files should be in what folder?
.aas
.bsp
.rtz
.pak

Here's a list of files I have in \baseq2\maps

Also textures, do they go in \baseq2\textures or \baseq2\maps\textures

My baseq2 dir is 1.28GB large..
This is just silly..

pak files go in the quake2\baseq2\ dir

bsp files go in the quake2\baseq2\maps\ dir

yes, the texture files go into quake2\baseq2\maps\textures\

My baseq2 dir is 2.04GB

Someone else will have to help you out with the .ass :shock: and .rtz files.

Just wanted to make a suggestion on Map rotation.

I was just on another server, and they had q2dm1-8, single player maps, and a few custom maps intertwined on a nice rotation. What I really liked about it was that it wasn't ALL custom maps sequentially (in a row), or not ALL single player maps back-to-back-to-back, or custom maps etc.

They would do like dm1, then a single player map, then dm2, or dm3, then a custom map. This was really nice. On xquake, the series of maps I'm not too fond of keep me away.

I think the above practice would be really nice, as you don't get burned out on one style of map being played like 10-15 times (or how ever many are on the rotation) in a row.

Just an idea, let me know what you think. BTW, the servers name is just Quake II DM, the one with the above mentioned rotation.

Regarding interleaved map rotation...

We have indeed talked about interleaved vs. grouped rotation.

It's a challenge - we've had opposing opinions where a player likes the custom maps, but is so sick of the old dm1-dm8 that they WON'T play when those are on. Basically the polar opposite of Punk>FAS>. LOL ... thus the "challenge" part. We've had a request for NON-interleaved rotation, so that people who are primarily interested in custom maps can connect and play them during during that part of the rotation, and then leave when the old dm1-dm8 come on...

So.............. uh........... Maybe we can do both? Still tryin' to figgure this one out.

I look at it this way. I'm not too fond of the single player maps. But I know I can suck it up on a map I don't like, when in all likelyhood the very next map will be one I like. I figure this could work for for those that do like single player maps, and don't like dm1-8 just as well. This way, it's unlikely you'll have to suffer through more than 1 or 2 maps you don't like at the very most in a row before you get to one you enjoy =)

I'm just assuming this may take a little bit of work for the server runner though, as to decide which maps to go in which order etc.

You could always leave out some of the less desirable dm1-8 maps as well, like dm4 for example, or maybe dm2 if that one isn't too popular.

Heck, for me anyway, this way I'm more inclined to stick around for the single player maps, perhaps I'll learn to like em =)

Ahh, as a side note, any clue why I can't stay logged in here? I always have to sign in again after I close the window.

My baseq2 is only 902mb :)You must go to other places that have custom maps too huh Art?Or have been going and collecting as you went eh?Anywhoo sounds like a nice collection of cyberspace!
