HEAT.net was absolutely amazing to play Q2 on.  It was the very first place I ever played Q2 at, and that was back in July of 1999 with a whole bunch of people from an old AOL message board.  I went by the name MeLoN2Kool and played there all the way up until the time when it was bought out by Sega.  Sega did that because they wanted to learn more about online gaming and how it worked, and there was no other place that perfected it better than HEAT.net.  Then once they realized it could be possible competition with Dreamcast's online service, they shut HEAT.net down on Halloween of 2000 if I remember correctly.

After that I drifted to MPlayer, which seemed unique in its own ways.  Very similar to HEAT.net in some regards, but it just wasn't the same community/server settings-wise.

I basically went on a Q2 hiatus when MPlayer was shut down by GameSpy.  I tried Zone.com, but the servers were way too laggy.  My hiatus lasted from 2002 to April of 2005 when I installed Q2 and discovered tastyspleen's vanilla on Gameaholic. 

Then the legacy of Kobra began...Involving one man's manipulation over an entire community.  But there was a purpose behind it.  I'm glad I did it since this community has drastically deteriorated since I arrived due to you lovely people.

Pittybull and I use to play on Mplayer in 2000 or 2001.  We were in TWC ( timber wolf clan )

TWC_ChikitA  and   TWC_Gladiator   

I really miss being able to launch your own game and pick the weapons/number of players/map etc.
You could also put passwords on the server rooms and lock them.

I'm glad you are.  Better off living your life blinded.  If you fail to see all of the negativity on here and the forums, then I don't really know what to say.  Check the Demos section for starters or read any posts from anyone who ever went to q2players.org.
