R1CH has recently released a new anti-cheat w/ r1q2, that co-insides with the version of r1q2 used for running servers. I think that updated cheat protection would be a good idea on the tastyspleen tourney servers. Anyone who doesn't have this anti-cheat and connects the server will display a message so everyone sees it.

I think this is great. Not only because it can stop cheaters, but it also builds confidence to reduce cheating accusations.

Is there an overview of this pre-release? I didn't find an overview on Rich's site. Perhaps he doesn't want to be too specific, but I'd like to know more about the anti-cheat measures.

Sure, if the servers are already r1q2 who cares?

But I dont see it being manditory, too many other clients out there.
And too many with features not written into r1q2.

Kewl though, R1CH is on the job

Question I have, are there really that many cheaters?
Id love any excuse to feel better about my game

It seems alot like nocheat, so does that mean people will still be able to connect to a AntiCheat/R1Q2 server using any available clients, such as the standard q2.exe ???

I suggest that not every server run the no cheat in case there are players who don't want to run it.

I dont see why someone wouldnt use R1q2. TS servers should enforce it. Nocheat is old and obselete.

I guess this anticheat will put an end to this...

because its a matter of preference..some people like nocheat, some people like aprq2, some people like q2ace, some people like EGL, and some people like R1Q2.

I hate change and I've always liked using NoCheat. Forced clients should be used for intense security competitions and maybe one or two of the tourney servers. Not all of them should be forced though.

People with other clients / quake2.exe can still connect, but the anti-cheat will display a message in green text informing everyone that this person does not have it. I think we need to push everyone to use this new r1 client. The fact is, there are so many cheats that co-inside with nocheat that it's easier to cheat w/ nocheat, than it is w/ quake2.exe (all of the ones that go w/ regular quake2.exe are way too old and detected). I personally think we need to put a block on people connecting with nocheat, along with other old clients, and give them a link to DL r1q2.

just a word of caution... rich's anticheat client is in the TESTING phase. there are bound to be bugs and numerous server restarts

but over at MK were small enough that we can afford intermittent outages. im not sure about TS... but if anything comes in response to the testing, ill inform everyone here

indeed , this is not an official release!
or else it would be available through the r1q2 updator

i will continue to use my client of choice regardless, theres really not that many cheaters to call for forcing everyone to use r1q2
and if it does come to this point, quake2 is dead. just like quake3 with pure server and punkbuster
they went way to far with that

Yeah, i can't speak for console, but i can't imagine anyone around here would push for a forced client. Perhaps one tourney server could run that way as a choice, but forced clients goes against the spirit of Tastyspleen.

i will say that i am using the client now and am happier then i have been in months. i had been using aprq2 cuz i preferred the movement and graphics. But you just can't beat r1q2 client on a r1q2 server. Nothing plays as smooth. And it seems to me that you can make r1q2 act like about any other client, 3.20, nocheat, etc with commands in the config.

i have said it for a long time, but i'll say it again. r1q2 has way more going for it then against it. Most complaints can be handled and changed to what the user prefers anyways.
