game crash at skin selection

probably a stupid question, but is there a way to avoid quake 2 to crash every time i'm in the skin selection screen, i start to change skins to select one i like and i'm never able to watch them all 'cause the game crashes after i change a few times the skin...

we need more info, what client do you use, how many skins do you have, and are you using software or opengl?
any custom models? anything in your players folder other then folders?

any errors?

i have the game, the patch to upgrade to 3.20,  all the maps, skins, sounds and hi res testures downloaded from the download section here, also have ref_r1gl.dll

I used to get that years ago using a P166 computer. I think the PC ran out of memory scanning thru all the models and skins. Some kind of bug in the software in the way it handled resources......

that ALWAYS happened after like 3 skin views in q3, on my p2 350, voodoo3 ;[

the weird thing is that i have a pentium 4, 3.06 ghz, 1gb ram, sos if it's a bug of the game there's no solution?
