But Iv Really Been Playing Quake2 For 6 Years Now
I Do Ok Score-Wise, Im Usaully Close To First Place
But Iv Always Had Trouble With Aim
I Completly Suck At It, If I Could Master This
Id Be A Monster :p
So Id Like To Ask The Better Players Out There For Suggestions On How To Improve My Aim

Heres what I try to do to help my aim sometimes, cause I get days where I cant hit anything.
1.If your aim is lacking, slow down..take your time with shots..even if it gets you killed.
2.Get used to being killed
3.If none of that works...then run around w/your blaster and practice w/it on people.
4.Gotta not care whether you live or not...to better your aim..cant stress that enough.
5. Do you have a diffrent crosshair that might be better for you?
I switch depending on whether its all rail...all wepaons...or mainly sshotgun..I use 3 different crosshairs for those situations.
Others may have other input...but the most important part of learning to aim is patience. And not caring if you get shot a few times while learning
Hope this helps.

i dont have a problem with dieing
i do some of your suggestions already
i only use one crosshair for everything
how do you switch crosshairs for each weapon? any particular crosshairs i should get?
id also like to note that i use a fov of 90 and right handness
i know people use a higher fov and center handess, would this help at all?
what about sensitivity settings for each weapon?

I personnally use "Center handness" simply because it gives me full vision. You can easily see what gun you in have in hand through the icons. Crosshair shouldn't matter as long as it's not exaggerately oversized. My mouse sensitivity is set to the maximum. And I have no idea what is weapon's sensitivity.

I also use righthandedness and 90 fov.I tried to goto the center view, but it didnt help me, actually made me worse for the 2 days I used it.There are ppl that will however tell you that center is best. You can make a bind Im sure to have every weapon use a certain crosshair...you would just have to add it at the end of the weapon bind. such as - bind L use shotgun;crosshair2- <---Im not sure if that works, but the concept of it makes sense to me..
I think hes wondering if you could do something like this---> bind L shotgun;crosshair2;mouse sensitivity 5
Now that I am not sure of Ill try to find out about both the crosshair and the sens..and get back to ya.

i was thinking about that too for crosshairs
but i dont think quake2 can hold more then 3 crosshairs tho
as for sensitivity, in quakeworld deathmatch
players use different sensitivity settings to help them aim with certin weapons
i was wondering if anyone did that and could tell me what i should use for that

I use no handedness and a FOV set at 120 (Hence EyEsTrAiN
). I would practice keeping your crosshair on something like a pillar while circle strafing it. I try to keep my crosshairs at the same position sometimes while moving my player to the point I need to be at. Sometimes it is a matter of waiting for them to jump into your sights. There is nothing like aiming down a long hallway and pegging 2 people with one rail, just have to wait for the right instance to fire. Hope that helps some

I use center handedness and 110-115 FOV depending on how i feel.....i have a 17'' widescreen LCD too..
My aim sometimes really sucks....I usually depend on my ability to be unpredictable and jump around and crouch like a madman....and hopefully eventually I'll get some random jerk shot in and kill the bastid. :p

I'll name the obvious. Dont aim at your target. Aim at where they will be when they shot goes off, and where it will hit them. Allow for lag, and travel time. So you need to aim AHEAD of where they are. The closer you are to them, the more exagerated this becomes. Rail and chaingun need alot of lead time.
For rockets, same thing, but takes even more thinking because it has maximum travel time. Aim at where they will be.
Always have your crosshair where your target will be. When you are rounding corners, you need to aim so when you peek around the corner, the crosshair will be aimed where it needs to be. As said before, move to your aim, dont aim to your movement.
Along these lines, when in a death dance with your partner, you need to stay away from being within his aim. Always stay to the side. Move in directions that will be hard for them to follow you with thier aim. i am always strafing to stay to the side of my opponent, and try to jump or get behind them at every opportunity.

Do your best to stay relaxed when you play, and do your best not to get frustrated when things don't go your way, or you're not improving as fast as you'd like. Keeping a clear head will put you in the ideal frame of mind to learn the quickest. And being frustrated/nervous is the last thing that'll help you get there. I think frame of mind is the #1 factor in playing well with this game, and lots of other things, whether it be a real fist fight, or any typically stressful situation. And for me, and I figure for most everybody else, when you're playing well, you have more fun. And when you stay calm, and relaxed, you play better, and thus have more fun.
Another thing you can do, is go into no_clip mode, or free flight in spectator mode. And chase people around, and just practice keeping your crosshair on them as they move about, this works great when they're in fights with other people, so you can sorta fight them at the same time, but without chance of getting killed. Watch where they're going. If they're about to round a corner, visualize them going around the corner, and be ready to change direction as they do.
Get a Logitech MX510 mouse, or the MX518 is out too now, if you don't already have one. A good mouse can make a huge difference as well. Also, I use 110 FOV I believe, and center handedness. I think center handedness has more advantages over the other options. Might take some getting used to coming from the other choices, but in the end you'll be a better player IMO.
Like Matster, I think you'd have gotten used to it, and improved had you just stuck with it. I used to use no crosshair at all, and going back to a crosshair was a PITA, but in the end it made me a better player, as going no crosshair for years helped my rail at first, but it sorely hurt my long range shot, as would be expected, and my rockets sucked (not that they're good now =P).
Also, don't age, don't get any older, getting older will slow down your reflexes, and hinder your ability to aim. It'll also make your skin wrinkly and do lots of other unpleasant things. So above all else stay young if you are now, and if you're not, then I'm afraid you're doomed.

lol, follow Punk's last suggestion strongly!! Age is probably the biggest hinderance to your game.

My advice would be to spend a couple of games in spectator mode watching me play. Then when you play, do whatever is the exact opposite of what I do.
I have THE WORST aim of anyone, hands down!
Maybe we should meet up 1 v. 1 and have a lame-off sometime.
