The q2dmx and Singleplayer can be nominated although they're not custom maps.

So from the four maps you assumed, none really has to be learned since everyone knows these maps like their pockets. So that gives good room to other custom maps ;)

I don't think railz-map and amateur (to a certain extent) are what we're looking for. We're looking for potential maps which are in the same spirit as the conventionnal dueling maps (ztns, q2dm3...) And there are a lot. My first template (Idea) was of 5 Voted maps, and 1 default (q2dm1). With 6 rounds (32players+), that gives 18 slots for 6 maps - which means that each map could fill a round (but obviously it'll be mixed up).

However, 5 voted maps doesn't necessarily means Ztns & q2dm3, that's what the Poll will be about. But I am aware you were only assuming, I just don't want you to be tremendously disappointed ;)

It's still under process. And tomorrow - we're gonna Post Polls and Explain the Voting thing.

ok that doesnt sound too bad, for the most part i was assuming i dont really understand the lay out even still...so its possible we will be playing different maps in every match we have?

and laurelin, if youd like to help me practice let me know what time we can do some more 1v1, it was fun, youre a deadeye with rail, but now i know to keep you from it and then you wont be any competition ;)

!.Q2dm1-This is the original 1vs1 map of all time.
2.Maybe a larger map to ease the tension, after taking an ass-kicking in q2dm1.
3.The third map I dont really care, as long as its not too big.

Unless major disagreements, this is gonna be a best 2 out of 3, for every round, 1st round to final. I find the 3 out of 5 a bit redundant. I think that in 5mins someone can show he outclasses someone else. I don't think we need 5 games of 15mins to settle this ;). Plus if it's tied - there is always, overtime. So 2 out of 3 should suffice. But like I said, if the majority of participants express their desire for a 3 out of 5 in the final, so be it.

So a Matchset (Consisting of maximum 3 games) will certainly not be played on a same Map. First we want to give everyone a chance to play different maps (for those who might be eliminated early). Second - a Three in a row allows no change in the flow, pace of the game, and might bore some. For some people, a change of map also means 'hope'. It adds much diversity and enjoyment.

So in no Matchset will a map be played twice. However, like I said earlier, One Map may (and most will) appear in different rounds.

For the Double Elimination that you stated. I am not sure about it. It might complicate things (bracketing, scheduling, additional time, odd numbers (BYE processing) and as this is the first edition - It would be wise to keep it easy in a Single Elimination. Given that it is best 2 out of 3, it gives some playing time to the unfortunates - Who I'm sure, will enjoy following the rest of the tournament, me the first.

Be assured though, that your suggestion will appear in the PoLL.

im very glad to have you running the tournament, you are fair and competent, my suggestion doesnt need to be added to the poll, i agree it shouldnt be 3 out of 5, im used to doing that in tournaments, but for a different game where games go by MUCH faster, its true we dont need to do best 3 out of 5 to establish dominance

Ok, I am obviously biased towards 4u2maps... but here are my map nominations:

4u2map12a: Lava Lamp.  Might be large for 1v1, but certainly playable for duels.
4u2map3: Warehouse ][.  A smaller map bound to have more action.
ztn2dm3: The Rage

I won't even nominate Edge cause it'll eventually end up as a default 1v1 map anyways.

oooo...and Areowalk..haha.....
Here's an idea.....just put all the suggested maps in the maplist file and forget the poll...then the two players can vote which 2 maps to play after they duel it out in q2dm1.....the two players doing battle will have to be in contact with each other to schedule anyways....post the map list....then when they schedule it will be up to the 2 players what maps they run....q2dm1 may not even be in the runnings in some matches....and I think that if your going to run a 2 out of 3 it should be somewhere between 10 and 15 mins....I've had 3 - 4 min streaks before....least it seemed that way....lol

What cha all think??? You can set up the tourney mod to be able to vote maps....

p.s. And if you schedule a week in advance....you will have time to familiarize yourself with the maps...
({KEA} server has a ton of customs in the skinwars config if the tastyspleen server is busy)...

You will have a few days to learn the maps chosen in the round....how long do you need....just start up quake2 and type in the console:
gamemap ztn2dm5
and your single player in the map.....then ppl can decide a few days before their match what maps will be played and get a feel for em....and most maps Im sure will be familar already...from the mutant server....besides....it will take a week to get the first round even started....
Im sure match scheduleing will be a couple days in advance anyways....decide then what maps your going to play....and the list is just those suggested....and liked, of course, by the all seeing...all knowing console....where the customs come from....

i still say we poll, i dont want to have to learn new maps every time i have a new challenger, keep the maps to a limited number, i know you guys pride yourselves on custom maps, but if you just keep adding maps to a 1v1 tourney youre going to have more random results

Just make the list as a limit of 10...don't have to use all of my suggestions....thats just for console to check out as suggestion....

I think ultimately Console and/or whoever else is spearheading this should decide which 2-3 maps to use after seeing all the nominations, then every1 will just have to live with it.

The idea of custom maps makes this more fun cause some players have a clear advantage with Edge as they know 90% of the time where you are on the map from the sounds of your pickups and every time you jump.  Heck, you can be right behind me and I won't have a clue  :o :o :o
Custom maps will at least not make it so obvious as when u pickup yello armor or the RL in Edge  ::) ::) ::)
