iv been using ASE for a good while now
but it seems to be abandoned now, its buggy and long overdue for an update
its great for quake2, but not for other games that i play

for example, it only shows like 35 quake4 servers for some reason
and doenst show alot of the newer quakeworld servers either
i used to use GSA, but it doesnt have great support for anything

is there anything thats still being actively updated that has good support for these games?[/quite]

Xfire, friend. Keeps me rather happy. The general intelligence of your average xfire user is rather low, but that doesn't detract from the quality of the program.

it looks pretty complicated

i cant even get it to give me a list of quake2 servers

don't worry, it only "looks" complicated....
just ignore any of the crap you don't plan on using right away..

once you've registered a user, login and go to the servers tab....
if you select Quake 2 under the "ALL" area, a window should come up on the right with modifiers
for you to choose from... select which stuff you want and just hit apply and it should populate a list of
servers that are turned on...

I didn't have to do much in the way of setup when I first installed it,
it just automatically found my correctly installed Q2 and "poof" it worked.

Just like using ASE... ignore all the stupid extras and just use the server finder. the other stuff
is for little kids with way too much time on their hands and sore fingers from playing W.O.W.

ya i got it working

though i think it really fails it as a server browser
i found qtracker, which seems to have potential, gunna check it out

EDIT: qtracker is the the server browser of the future!! now if only they could add better support for quake2

I agree..
after trying xfire out for a bit, I got sentimental and went back to using ASE...

I don't play much online except for Q2 so for now I pray that ASE doesn't
get turned off. When it goes, I'll be forced to hurt my little eyeballs using xfire or
some similar freeware...

it has crappy quake2 support but iv posted on there forums in hope that they will correct this

EDIT: it seems qtracker is now fixed and reports the same amount as ASE
i highly suggest everyone try this out
