grom_dm3 is already on the mutant rotation. id like to keep it fresh, so i didnt keep any of maps from the old
this will be a total overhaul :)

When I say I find a lot of currently rotating maps no fun to play then that's based on the way I like to play this game, namely fast, offensive and a bit reckless:)  So when I judge a map it has to; -have enough elbow-room, -have a proper scale, -have well thought out itemplacement, -offer several playing styles, -look decent.  I understand that map cycles need refreshing now and then but if good maps make way for not so good maps I get a little nervous.;P  Some maps may look pretty but offer nothing else than slow cat&mouse games because they're too cramped or rail-dominated games because they're really too wide open.
To name a few maps that I don't consider "damn good maps" are: dakyneq2 (God no), evil2, marics_con1, rvndm1, poodm10, tastydm1, marics27 ->railz?, kamq2dm3, kta, trdm04, epitaph, dreams, marics58, marcis59->railz?, rene51, tltf->railz?, auh2dm3.
On the other hand it doesn't really matter much as long as people can choose from the huge (almost overflowing) 'mymap' list. I simply forgot about that ,-) But sometimes it can be a pain to have to watch things from the sidelines and besides it's just feedback, doesn't mean I hate this game (FFS!)

Many of those I like.  marics_con1 is one of my favorites!!  :)  On that list, epitaph is probably my least favorite.  auh2dm3 I didn't used to like, but it grew on me.  I always seem to have fun playing it, catching air off all the angled surfaces at speed, without falling into the lava.  I also like trdm04, dreams, marics58, marics59, rvndm1...

Ah well.  As always, it's impossible forumalte a single playlist where everyone likes every map.  Some people just have polar opposite preferences in maps I guess.

My bad about grom_dm3, I have the impression that I haven't seen it for a month on mutant, I just don't happen to play when it's on.

to Panjoo:
trdm04a is one of my favorite, I always have a great time playing that map. Dreams, although it doesnt have the best gameplay (bit cramped, revolves around RA), is a mapping chef d'oeuvre so that makes up for its lacks :)

I was wondering if it is possible to compute the user activity on maps for a period of one month and so, figure out which maps are played the least (I know it also depends on what time of the day the map happens to cycled on, but over a month period, it should give a good graph of a map's popularity). That way we could toss out the 5 least popular maps and Xtyfe could add new ones. Popular maps would always stay there until people get bored of them.

I guess the same could be done for Railz server.

oh thats easy! a full rotation of q2dm1 :) lol

i like this suggestion, but out of the huge amount of maps on the servers
people want to play onle a handful of them. to name a few... aerowalk, grom_dm3, tltf etc
so the maplist will be comprised of just these maps all the time

i want people to experince the other less played (in some cases never) played maps. and hope that people will like them just as much
so we can have more then just those always-played maps. you never know till you try :)

Well,

If we start with your bundle of maps (new unknown maps), and that 'you' do add the 5 maps everytime. Then you can make sure that it's always new maps that come in. Basically no aerowalk, ztns would come in unless you want to. The most popular maps would happen to be new maps from your bundle.

At any rate, there's nothing wrong in having a couple well-known custom maps (aero, ztns) running on mutant, that's what this server is about. It's these maps who bring people on the server.

indeed :) and i do have some well known maps on the list

to list some, painklr2 - just an updated version of ztn2dm1
and rdm14 is the converted edge map from rogue mission pack

so instead of doing a whole new list every few months
just add 5 new maps and get rid of 5 less popular ones
i like it :)

quadz installed the new maplists today :D

unfortunatly, i just found out after he did, the first map in the rotation for mutant is actaully for kingpin lol
however, i was able to find the correct version and will post here and/or where ever :)
though alot of people have downloaded the map already, and will get an error when this new version is on the server

EDIT: would also like to point out that the timelimits and fraglimits are seriously messed aswell :)
EDIT2: it seems people cant download textures for the map thrash2 on railz either

railz server needs fixing, it crashes before it even gets to my maps, so either railz needs to be fixed on crashes, or the server should have random maps, not load the same map list everytime...  I am getting tired of having to go on railz and typeing mymap and my maps name just to view and play it... I can tell the map has not been coming up, becuase the regulars have to download my maps everytime.  So it needs to be fixed asap... becuase I feel my maps and other rail maps are not getting played becuase of the constant railz server crashing.

it's a bug in osp.. cant be fixed until/unless wheet does his railz mod like osp, but without the homo crashes.. it cant be fixed because noone has the source code/it's not released (afaik)

Yes, the author of OSP refuses to open the source code, but he's also no longer fixing bugs in it himself.  When this happens, it results in a dead project.  I can't understand why he would refuse to release the source for a 7 or 8 year old mod he doesn't have any involvement with anymore.

But anyway...

It would probably only take wheet or I a few hours to add the needed "spawn with railgun" and "remove items from map" logic to create a non-crashing railz mod from the vanilla or sheridan codebase.

Probably one or the other of us will get to it someday.  In the meantime, we apologize for the inconvenience.  :dohdohdoh:
