DaHang Abusing his Admin Privillage - Please remove it

On the subject of aliasing:
I don't find anything the slightest bit wrong with playing under a different
name unless it's one that has already been taken by another player, or
you're competing on the tourney servers in an actual TDM/1v1 match.
When i play for fun and practice, I rarely use my regular name and clan tag
unless I'm on a server where my clanmates are playing or one that keeps
stats.. (the latter only when I want to know how terribly I play q2...)

I might not use b.s. names like "player,user,asdf etc.." but I understand that some people
like to keep it short and simple or lack the imagination to come up with something longer.
at least it's not "diseased pussy" or some other ridiculous shit.
using a very common alias should not be a cause for renaming...

For an admin to check my IP, and then force a name change on me when I'm playing
for fun (or I'm aliased cause I'm too drunk to compete for shit) would be completely unreasonable
and offensive to me. On the other hand, if I were giving everyone a hard time and spamming
and being a little shit, I could see why the admin might want everyone to know who's behind the
curtain. peer-pressure is a remarkable tool when it comes to keeping assholes from being assholes.

For the purposes of a tournament, your name should be the one you use on the forums
or it just adds a level of annoyance to the game as others have to find out that its really you
before they start the match...

putting someones clan tag on is an entirely different story...
even if you're just giving someone a hard time (for whatever reason),
you should not pretend to be affiliated with another clan for the purposes of mocking them or whatever...
people who do this are chumps. and should be banned indefinitely as they can't be trusted to
obey the most simple rules of online etiquette...

if I showed up with [2c.shithead] as my alias on a TS server, I'd expect to get a ban, kick or a strong bitch-slapping...

I'm sorry, but I can't see how this situation can be considered admin abuse. What randy said is fairly spot on regarding aliases. When people are using an alias they are generally doing it to get away with something. 95% of people that join a server under an alias usually like to start trouble and talk lots of shit, which judging by what I read of Masta he fits into that statistic. Aliasing is a way to get away with things you normally wouldn't be able to without tarnishing your "e-reputation", which is apparently very important to him. I think the fact that Masta brings up DaHanG's "history of hacking" should immediately have voided his request to have DaHanG's referee status removed. There has never been one log or demo of DaHanG cheating, pure and simple. That whole issue started from Krez and he will come out and tell you straight up that he just enjoyed being an asshole back when he had admin at assassins. If anything I think it simply proved that he has some kind of personal issue with DaHanG. Including out right lies in your argument is usually a pretty clear sign of that.

As for you Plastik, no one can be 100% fair all of the time. The fact that you even claim that shows how much of an idiot you can be. Following the guidelines is one thing, but everyone has their own personal opinion on determining what the outcome should be and therefore where exactly it should fit into the 'guidelines' you speak of. [TC]Granny is another person who should have his opinions completely ignored. Why it's nice to see other sides of stories or personal experiences he is the same person that claims to be the 'best legit ever' and states openly that everyone that plays quake 2 other than him, dinsum, and the 'randum nubs' hack in some form.  I definitely think his referee abilities should be returned. He has already banned several cheaters (with evidence) and cleaned up the severs imo.

well i would like to simply point out that there are two people offended by my behavior:
[TC]Granny - everyone knows how important his opinion is considering the professional and mature attitude he has displayed on this site numerous times.
masta - someone who was up to no good talking shit under an alias.

maybe removing him wasn't the most professional thing to do, but i can assure you that in the server of 9 or so people, none were offended by my decision except him. i wonder why? because nobody "likes" aliasing shit talkers and for the most part they actually want them to stay away from games. it's not the end of the world to simply remove an aliased shit talker, whether it was correct or not. i didn't just ban someone i personally disliked, i didn't stuff people "sensitivity 9999", everything i have ever done was for the sole purpose of things running smoothly. i think my actions have proven that's been clear, whether i went by the book or not.

Just to clarify, dahang never lost his referee privileges.  What I did was temporarily suspend his access to the admin scripts that allowed him to force asdf to go observer, while we work this out.

As I've stated elsewhere, I'm aware people acting like jerks can cause more disruption on tourney servers than on, say, vanilla.  So in that sense I'm open to the possibility of more latitude for admins on tourney servers than on a madhouse like vanilla.  Maybe.  But on the flipside, in the "road to hell is paved with good intentions" category, we've certainly seen plenty of servers where admins who claimed to be desiring simply to root out bad behavior, got so heavy-handed and seemingly arbitrary, that their sanitized servers became no fun to play on, either.

So I think it's crucial admins use their abilities consistently, fairly, and sparingly.  I'm not sure where all the boundaries are yet, but using admin powers to remove asdf from a team seems questionable to me.  Why not let the team captains handle it?

As for having active admins around for policing servers, I think DaHanG is a fair admin. If you know clan Demised's past history for allowing hackers in their clan, and not giving a crap what goes on within the team, then you would also be a little agitated at someone aliasing who happens to be in "dM". Not only has untouch allowed ditzu in his team, but he has also at one point had xpoze and wiley(lunchbox) while knowing they were highly accused and suspected of using hacks. DaHanG is overall a fair admin and is around all the time to regulate servers. Usually the people who are affected by some sort of admin-use by DaHanG generally deserve what comes to them IMO. I say this because I have played quake2 competitively for years and I know most of the players in the scene, and like Randy said, most aliasers are either hiding something or they're there to talk shit hiding behind their true identity. Maybe creating a server for people who love to alias could be a better idea than creating a new server only for people who like to play as their true identity, and in return know who they are playing.
