i'm so sick of this one guy, whenever dm3 comes up, he gets rail and just kills you when you spawn near mega.  i swear he does this 24/7.  he has an indian type name or something.  i'm all for not spawning in the same place twice, shoulda been in there from the get go

Oh that would be Sardarji.  I think he walks around real life with a pager which goes off when q2dm3 cycles on.  I'll give up going for a win on that map in order to root him out of his mh lair.


i don't know much about how spawn furthest effects things, but it seems like spawn random would be better.  because you wouldn't be able to predict where they were as easy

It would be nice if it were off.  Especially since the dm server is so populated now.

spawn farthest was a major problem on railz server untill a while ago
on a big open arena map it was very easy to figure out where someone would spawn

dont take away spawn protect, it might not be "vanilla", but it helps alot
i still dont think theres enough on railz server either, it hardly protects at all

I think it's a little short on the rails server, but it does tend to influence people to get the heck off the spawnpad quickly.
It also forces me to constantly change up my first movements right after spawning to make it tougher to guess which way I'm runnin when the yellow wears off.. Seems to be good practice for mods without the protection..

I'm requesting spawn farthest be disabled on the DM server.  This poll is evidence people agree.

OK, based on the poll, spawn farthest is now OFF on the dm server.


All the spawn camper has to do is sit near the "far side" of the map  - the farthest from the most players.  In other words, spawn farthest spawns players farthest from the majority of the players but not farthest from the players who spawn camp.

Actually the spawn farthest algorithm is more simplistic than that.  It doesn't care where most of the players are, it simply finds the furthest spawn pad from any live players.

       /dev/random gathers environmental noise from device drivers and other sources into
       an entropy pool.  The generator also keeps an estimate of the number of bits of the noise
       in the entropy pool.   From this entropy pool random numbers are created.

hehe cool, i just thought of that, i had heard before some programs use mouse input.  that rand thing must be pretty shitty, since it's whole purpose is coming up with something unique.  would having a database of numbers work, go through the database based on the computer time, and then run the number in the database through a different equations each time. well this is far off from spawn protection, but i was curious : P

Well, he has a point: getting 2-5 telefrags, in 3 seconds, for clicking your mouse really quickly isn't all that sporting nor does it require any skill.

It gets a bit ghey with the server fully loaded up with 16 players (as it has often been in the past couple weeks)

Also, with this many players spawning, the chance to camp effectively is kinda nill unless the map is really poorly laid out.

I agree with Elysium on one thing. It does suck to be telefragged simply because you walked over a pawn pad. You worked hard to get Rockets, Armored up, and mabey the Quad to, just to hear "Squiiish" beause [BTF]DeathStlkr envaded some dudes space.
But at the same time, Spawn fraggs can't be helped on a full 16 player server regaurdless of the settings. The last I counted I couldn't find 16 Spawn Pads on Q2DM7.
