Same with the armor shards, if you hear that pickup, there are only two places the opponent could be, by the hyperblaster shards or by the mega shards.

Actually, there are shards on that little plateau with the rockets and big health pack right by the railgun pond on DM1, you forget about those? =P

on the subject of sound placement in maps

people have found it better to replace the stock quake2 sounds with louder and more clearer ones
it will certinly help you alot

i made myself a "pak" file of replacment elements that help with not just sounds, but visability
such as a better hud and easy to see player skins and item skins

it can be found here: http://xtife.tastyspleen.net
different paks can be found here aswell http://filesource.quakeclans.org/paks.php

i have jump bound to space and I think i jump fine.. soo it doesn't necesarily have to be bound to mouse2 :)

How many jump aliases/binds do you use though?  I find it much easier to double click the right mouse button for a double jump than hitting the space bar twice quickly.  The throw of the mouse button is much shorter than the spacebar, so it should be easier to click it more quickly.

Also, most of the jumps I presume you're refering to require smooth mouse movement, or flicks, etc., to gain speed, or get the right angle, not requiring quick, rapid hits of the jump key.  And I believe you mentioned in another post you use an alias/bind for double jump, and perhaps you use others as well.  Also I find it easier to do rocket jumps with both keys right next to each other.

And another good way of learning how to play is watching demos or spectating good players on servers some, just to get the idea what the game is all about.

If you're on the vanilla server between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. CST on weekdays, you might want to spec a player called Scrotumus, or even make demos of him for later viewing. Watch carefully every move he makes, creating a mental picture of what he does in any given situation. And then vow to NEVER, EVER do what he does. If you do that, you'll be a much better player in no time!
