Hi all. I was able to play 1 time the other day on your Q2 rail server port 27911. I went to log on today and its telling me connection refused and i cant get on. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

You're banned. I can check the admin logs and take you off the blacklist. What's your IP btw, and the name you use to quake with.

[Edit by Admin: Mr_X is not an admin, you are not banned, he can't check the logs, and he has no need to know your IP.]

wow why would i be banned? I only was in there 1 day lol. Name i used was Bigmo. not sure about my ip. How do i find that?

I think my ip is 69.139.xxx.xxx. I dont know why i would be banned though. I only played 2 games and thats it. Thank you for your help though

Please pay no attention to Mr_X. He's been unbanned from the forums for 5 hours and already impersonating an admin and generally wasting more of my time.

Icon77/BigMo: I don't see anything in the ban lists that would indicate why your connection would be refused.

The logs show you appear to have been able to connect to railz about three minutes ago. Are you still having troubles or did it somehow fix itself?

I damn sure think he should be banned again for dooping someone into posting thier IP Address and causing grief for the admins and Icon77

Icon77, an IP is like a keys to the front door of your computer. No (good) Admin will ever ask you to post your IP. It can open you up to all kinds spam, pings, and hacks. Make sure your FireWall is in good shape.

He is. This was his third strike, too. He asked to be unbanned this morning, and I said OK, and Good Luck, because this was his third chance. I think I am done with him as far as the forums goes. (I know he has been able to get past forums bans using a proxy, but, we'll deal with that when it comes up.)

I don't want to freak Icon77 out too much. It's more like giving someone your address, rather than your keys. Unless your computer is infected with a trojan or buggy software that allows hackers to get in, generally the worst someone can do with your IP (on a properly secured operating system) is launch a denial of service attack against you to use up all your bandwidth.

Giving out your IP is not normally the end of the world. Every time you send an email using your ISP's SMTP email port, for instance, whoever receives your email has your IP. But just the same, we would never normally ask someone to publicly post their IP.

Yes i was able to log on when i tried about 25 mins later. Thank you all also. First time here and i figured he was admin. Thank you for the heads up and lets hope he didnt read that. I dont even know if the ip i posted was right anyway. I hope hes banned again for trying to impersonate admin. Again, Thank you

Was this still on railz (tastyspleen.net:27911) or a different server?

just tried and still says Connection Refused. I made sure i have downloading maps and skins and such on yes so that shouldnt be an issue

Weird. The railz server logs don't see you trying to connect at all. I tried a traceroute from the server back to your IP, and that seemed to work OK. So I dunno what's up.

Could you try some other servers, like maybe:
east.tastyspleen.net:27940 (jumpmod) That's on a different CPU.
