Okay, first off, yep....I'm a still a newb! Never was very good, but I've always loved playing Q2 none-the-less...

Anyway, I was in the railz server, and got invited to a different server, but when I tried to connect it said:

Only standard Q2 drivers allowed......

or something like that. I'll assume its some sort of anti-cheat deal, to only allow valid clients to connect.

The things is, I don't have anything special with my config I don't believe...I am running 3.20, openGL mode on my 3dfx V2s in SLI. I do have "Q2 evolved" client installed, but wasn't using it (its a *tad* sluggish on my old system, so I don't use it for MP).

What am I doing wrong?

how do you run voodoo2s in SLI? lol

the servers have some pretty over zealus settings, even i have problems connection sometimes
id suggest using a newer client such as r1q2 or aprq2, 3.20 is dated and has major bugs

and q2 evovled just sucks ass

never use that ever lol

Alan, check the TRG forum, i've posted somewhat of a reply.. xtyfe you should know that 3dfx were the SLI guys first!

Actually, I was *just* about to delete this thread, as I found out the other server I was invited to had nothing to do with tastyspleen, but had the word "tasty" in the address, so I thought they were related...

Anyway, it doesn't surprise me there were a few remaining bugs in 3.20, but oddly, I've never had a problem with it (maybe I'm lucky!).

i was sure that SLI was a new technology lol
why on earth has taken so long to added into newer stuff

As far as I know, the SLi that 3dfx started wasnt all that great, it never caught on, recently nvidia revived it, and have owned 3dfx for some while now I believe

The new client did the trick.

My only bitch so far is, its too dark on my system. I tried tinkering with the gamma setting in config, but when lowered (higher gamma), all it does is wash the image out, but still leave things too dark.

Is there a brightness setting the aprq2 client?

try "intensity 2.5" and "gl_modulate 5" you will need to reset the video "vid_restart" to make it work

3dfx had SLI first back in the day when q2 was new. if you had 2 Voodoo 2's in SLI you were considered uber l33t! didnt catch on back then due to the computer gaming industry still being somewhat new. games were coming bout but people really couldnt afford to spend $400 on a video card. Mind this is 1997 we are talking about. sum it up 3dfx was suffering as a company. Nvidia the new comer back then basically took over eventually bought out 3dfx. They let sli sit dormat for a while while they were working on it just incase the soon would be companys. Sure enough its back...if you can afford it.

Applejacks pretty much summed it up with the SLI technology. IMHO, there is not a game out there that is worth the expense of todays SLI.

Now back in the day, Quake made SLI worth every penny!
